Whoa, Radio F! I've got Bible Adventures as well. Rather bizarre title if you ask me. My favorite levels are the Noah's Ark stages (something about taking inventory used to fascinate me... odd :heh ). I also have another Christian title dealing with Joshua or something. It was mainly a puzzle title with his background story between stages. Man, I haven't checked out my NES collection in ages...

Too many to list, dating from NES for Consoles and 386/DOS for PC. Very heavy on RPG/Strategy. Highlights: Temple (DOS, text based RPG, very old school), Complete FF series (5&6 in both english and japanese, but I'm missing 3j), Zelda 1/2 gold carts for NES, a little gem for PC called Aethra Chronicles, Dark Cloud 2 (couldn't get into 1), Disgaea (awesome, currently trying to crack the checksum and do some hacking goodness), Earthbound, Suikoden series (up to III), Freedom: First Resistance (PC, based off Anne McCaffrey's Freedom series), and Dragonrider's of Pern (also PC, also Anne McCaffrey).

Most wanted: Battle for Middle-Earth (PC), La Pucelle Tactics, Super Mario RPG

Currently playing: Katamari, Phantom Brave, Ultima Online (but offline, using emu...)

I used to have tons of games, everything from diskettes full of C64 games I just couldn't bear to part with to the latest and greatest in PC adventures, but after several globehopping years, two breakins, and a thieving ex, I was left with...well, Fallout. Not, of course, that Fallout isn't a great game, but, man, that thieving ex got the last of the last. He got EVERYTHING. He even snagged the PS2 he had given me for my birthday the year before we broke up. (In a truly beautiful stroke of poetic justice, he got burgled some time later, and lost the PS2 and all the games. I never saw any compensation for the HUNDREDS of dollars of software he ran off with, but knowing that he doesn't have it either helps a little.)

Anyway. In the post-thieving-ex world, I am more or less always broke. Rebuilding my collection has been slow, and I still don't have NEARLY all the games I want to have. Sometimes, I get a craving for, you know, the feel of some cheesy old game, and nothing else will do. It sucks, because at first I think I have whatever game I'm in the mood for, and then I remember, "Oh, it got lost between Milan and Tokyo," or "Man, I left THAT in Salt Lake City," or "Effin' JOE took it! Bastard!"

So, my current (pitiful) collection is as follows:

PC games: Baldur's Gate II, with "Shadows of Amn" expansion
Final Fantasy VIII

(Fallout was lost in my recent move from Sweden to Canada, alas! That one is definitely on my rebuy list. I LOVE Fallout.)

PS/PS2 games: GTA: Vice City (I never play this one--I'm completely pants at driving games, and hate them accordingly)
Xenosaga: Der Wille zur Macht
Final Fantasy X
Final Fantasy X-2 (THE PAIN!)
Breath of Fire III
Breath of Fire IV
Breath of Fire V: Dragon Quarter
Chrono Cross
A Dog's Life (I got this as a free gift when an eBay seller screwed up my order. I played it for about an hour one evening, and was not impressed.)
Suikoden III
Star Ocean: Till the End of Time

And that's it. My entire list. I'll have Flipnic Pinball soon, as well, and We Love Katamari, when it comes out, but, man. That is one pathetic list. My selection is so limited that I've actually played Final Fantasy X-2 MORE THAN ONCE, out of sheer desperation.

The next few on my "rebuy" list are:

Xenogears (I never got to finish this! Dad-gum thieving ex nicked it, even though it was an NTSC version, and we were living in PAL country. He still is! Wanker!)
Final Fantasy VII (Again, I never got to finish. I was right near the end, too, with just a couple of tiny loose ends to wrap up, and then the final battle!)
Jade Cocoon (Nice art in this one. Had a good feel to it. Good for playing on days that haven't gone very well.)
Final Fantasy Anthology (whichever version/versions I have to buy over here to get IV, V, and VI)
Silent Hill
Parasite Eve (well, maybe. I have THOROUGHLY beaten this game, at this point, Chrysler building, junk gun, and all. It'll probably be a very long time before I'm in the mood for it again, especially considering how annoyed I was when I finally reached the top of the Chrysler Building. Man, I was expecting an AWESOME alternate ending, for all that pain and boredom. I mean, at least a video sequence. But, no--it was just a bunch of talk, and then game over. The non-secret, non-special ending was better. Ptooee.)
Neverwinter Nights (another one that got lost somewhere between Sweden and Canada.)

Once I have finished REBUYING games I've ALREADY bought (dammit!), I'd like to pick up Xenosaga II, Okami, maybe Suikoden IV, although I heard that last one wasn't so great. I'll get Final Fantasy XII when that comes out, as well. Might pick up Radiata Stories, too, if it isn't too cutesy, and Dragon Quest VIII.

I'm hoping some company will come out with some decently-scripted games in the near future, too. Gamers are growing up--why can't games? Even many of the bestselling titles out there are semi-literate, at best, and rely on horrible cliches and stilted dialogue to move the story along. I keep buying games because I love exploring virtual worlds, especially beautiful ones, but as the years go by, the horrible writing and hackneyed characters grate more and more. Nothing jolts you out of a story faster than some stupid "comic-relief" character randomly falling on his ass every two minutes, or some hideously contrived snippet of dialogue ruining a perfectly choreographed scene.

Me, I've got a pretty good imagination, so when I'm playing Final Fantasy (for example), and some idiotic, unfunny moogle is tripping all over the screen, I just pretend it never happened. I enjoy the scenery till the brain-withering dialogue is gone. I look at the perfectly-rendered expressions on the characters' faces (or, in the case of the NES/SNES games, imagine them), and pretend they spoke in a manner that might be considered natural.

But I wish these game developers out there would hire actual writers to script their games--both to come up with the stories, and compose the in-game text/dialogue. Half the games out there sound like they're designed for folks who barely read at a fourth-grade level. Give gamers some credit! Put some meat on these paper-thin stories. Give us characters we can relate to. In Final Fantasy VII, I wanted to care when Aeris died, but she talked like an insipid little goat throughout the game, and wasn't particularly useful, either.

I'm not asking for Greek tragedy here, or even for Shakespeare. I just want some games with a spot of narrative depth to them. Where, instead of:

Character A: I know it's been hard for you, since your village was destroyed.
Character B: ...
Character A: Can you continue with our journey?
Character B: I have to. For [name of village]. For [name of dead relative]. For [name of country where game takes place].
Character A: Yeah!

one might get:

Character A: [laughing]
Character B: What?
Character A (kicking at a fork, abandoned in the main thoroughfare of the ruined village): There's a fork in the road.
Character B: Uh...yeah.
Character A (laughing harder): A fork! In the road! Don't you get it? [Gales of laughter.]
Character B (looking confused): Character A, it's nice to see you smiling again, and all, but...what the hell?
Character A (kicking the fork into the gutter): Ha, never mind. Let's go.
Character B: To [next destination]?
Character A: Where else?

Just something one can relate to. Anything. People don't deal with life's obstacles by exchanging tired platitudes and pompous declarations. I'd just like to see a spot of humanity in there. You know, getting hysterical and laughing at a fork, or checking to make sure one's deodorant is still working, or having embarrassing mucus problems while crying. Something. Anything.

Granted, there HAVE been quite a few exceptions to the horrible writing/lame story rule, especially in non-console games. I've mostly been playing console games lately, though, owing to a very old computer, and a new PS2. I've noticed that most console games do seem to fall into this trap.

Ha, I should make my own damn game, and just SEE if I can do it better! (Hint: I can't. I haven't done any coding, besides HTML, since the days when GW-BASIC was hi-tech. Ah, well. I'll just stick to my own darn job, and hope game developers start doing theirs better.)

Oh. And, speaking of terrible scripting, Thieving Ex and I used to play a little metagame whenever we had a console RPG going: we'd make bets on how many hours/minutes of gameplay we'd clock before some random villager said something to the effect of "Monsters are increasing."

I think it was Final Fantasy IV where the actual phrase "Monsters are increasing" was used, and which got us started on this metagame, but there's something like it in nearly every console RPG out there. Someone, completely apropos of nothing, lets you know that, yep, there are extra beasts in the woods these days. They're not generally specific about just WHAT might be out there: it's always "monsters", or "fiends", or "beasts".

Also, I must point out that although FFIV was the FIRST game in which that exact phrase appeared, it was not the only one. I remember we were playing some other game, at one point, and "Monsters are increasing" got said. We started jumping all over the place, screaming and laughing our asses off. Good times.
