I dig it a lot, I kinda like it better than ddr except for it's really tough scoring system. The songs are sweet too, they rule. Anyone else play this? I hope ITG2 gets a console release too, that would rule. It's a bit harder, actually, a lot harder than ddr but it still is pretty kick ass. |

...."a bit harder"... I haven't played DDR, my dancing game "skills" are strictly from GTA:SA and my brain haemorrhaged as I tried a little "harder" setting at ITG :rolling |

Is this one of these games where you have a pad, and you dance around on it and stuff? I've always wanted to try one of those, but the pads are too expensive. Question, though: do people just sit on their chair and move their feet around on the pads, or do they actually get up and dance? |

As sad is it may sound, you actually have to get up off your lazy ass and dance on the pad. Although, you CAN use controller, and stay seated on your chair, but that's not what they're ment to be playing through. Pads vary depending on quality: $20 gets you the cheapest pad that could last you, at most, 4-6 months, depending on your playing style (n00b, or expert) $50-100 gets you a pad with an inch thick foam inside of it that'll last you a good year or 2 (Ignition 2.0/3.0 pads are the best of the best, and can be found in any Best Buy near you) $130 gets you the cheapest kind of Metal pad which can last you about the same amount of time as a foam pad $300 gets you THE VERY VERY BEST METAL PAD IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD!! LASTS FOREVER!!!!!!! |

Hey, that sounds like fun. I like to dance. I'm not good at it, but I do enjoy it. Sounds like it would be good exercise, too. I might pick up one of the cheaper pads some time, just to try it out. (No way would I shell out $300 for a pad, though. My gaming budget doesn't cover that kind of expense.) I weigh less than 100 pounds, being extremely short. I probably wouldn't wear out a cheap pad TOO fast. Then again, I'm capable of breaking very nearly anything by sheer force of clumsiness, so who knows? |

As long as you pick your feet up, the cheapy $20 ones will last you some time, cuz if you don't, the pad will be sliding all over the place and the pad itself would start tearing apart, and the censors for the arrows won't work anymore. The foam and metal pads you don't have to worry about too much, as they are pretty planted onto the floor, and don't move around a whole lot (VERY slight with foam, but no movement at ALL with the metal) |

Alternately, if you're brave, you could just pop some quarters into a DDR/ITG machine at your local arcade (if you have one). Most every arcade has some form of stepping machine these days... I personally can't stand those games, partly because I'm no good at them. Yet I love games like Parappa and Amplitude... |

This is what I don't get. Why are people turned away from DDR simply because they're not "GOOD" at it?? WHO CARES!! It's not like your the only one in the whole world who isn't good...I know quite a few people (girls mainly) who aren't "good" at it, but it doesn't bother them that much. This is why they came out with DDR for PS2, so you can play at the privacy of your own HOME!!! No one to make fun of you or NOTHING! Just ask vix! ![]() ....I don't mean to push people down further into not getting the game, but the VERY FIRST time I ever played DDR, was at an arcade in Lincoln, NE. I had very good rhythm to begin with, so I started out on Standard and failed pretty badly. I didn't feel embarresed, I just played again, and did about 1 or 2 games on Light (machine was 5 songs each game) then tried again on Standard, and suddenly became good on Standard. About a couple days later, last time I played on arcade before buying the PS2 version back home in MA, I played my first song on Heavy, and barely passed it! I was so happy for myself....yet no one cared of my skills! I guess what I'm trying to say is...don't think that if your going to play DDR at an arcade that there's gonna be 5-10 people watching you, because you know what? You'll be lucky to even have ONE person watch you! Even at my skill level (and let me tell you, it's REAL REAL GOOD), I BARELY get people watching ME!! So it's all in a matter of what arcade you go to to play at. In the long run, people will just walk by and not even pay attention! And you know what? If people DO watch you....they probably "suck" just as much as you!

Myself, I have absolutely no shame about this sort of thing. I would totally go to the arcade and dance my butt off, but the closest arcade has no wheelchair access, and is on the second floor. (I obviously CAN walk, but not that far, and not up stairs!) I'm not even sure I'd be physically capable of playing this game, but I'll probably give it a try in my own stair-free home when I have enough money to buy the stuff for it. If the dances are not more than a couple of minutes long, I should be able to do them without too much trouble. |

Hey gn, i started using the mat again,
I suck at dancing but I to do love ddr and itg. most songs aren't that long and you really only get super active on the harder levels, if you never played before it's best to start on novice or beginner for the mat. |

On DDR, each song is around a minute and a half (15 sec's more or less depending on song). There are something like 3 or 4 songs that are "Long Versions" and go for a full 3 minutes. When you start out on easier difficulties you'll barely break a sweat, as it'll just barely be a way of getting you to be familiar with the placement of arrows and timing and rhythm. When you move onto harder difficulties, that's when you'll really get moving, and start breaking a sweat after a few songs. If my friggin' Windows Media Encoder didn't crash right when encoding, I would be glad to make some videos of some songs on the easier difficulties to show you what it's like. I'm SURE You'll be physically capable of doing those at least, but for the harder difficulties, it's all based on your stamina and strength in your legs. |

Hey, I'd love to see some videos, if you ever get your encoder working again! I always like to get a look at a game before I buy it, because of the limited nature of my gaming budget. I hate to buy a game that turns out to be completely awful, or not at all what I expected (in a bad way). I'm sure I can dance for 1.5 minutes without too much trouble, especially if the dance isn't too crazy. Even if I can't do all the levels, it sounds like it would be fun if I could at least do the easy ones. |

And about the mats... I bought the DDRMAX2 packaged with the official mat, which is currently just tossed in the corner of my room, well over a year ago. I have not had a single problem with it sensing my steps. While I can't afford a $300 pad, the one that came in the $60 package is very nice. The trick is, use your socks, not your shoes. Shoes wil destroy a mat like that in no time flat(had to make it rhyme). I've played the redoctane afterburner pads(with the foam inserts), and frankly, all the ones I've played (at best buy) sucked. The response was a little slow, and it didn't feel natural, and on one pad, the right sensor didn't even respond (resulting in embarassing failures of light songs). I used to play 3 hours a night, for 5 months, and now I'm down to about 7 or 8 hours a week, but it still works fine after a year. I haven't seen a better affordable pad. |

OH yeah!! That was the other thing I forgot to mention! Don't wear shoes on "soft" pads, whether it's foam or the $20 cheapies. Only wear shoes on Metal pads, since that's kinda what they're designed for. |

If you get/have it, and you truly want an ITG experience, play the song "Bend Your Mind" on easy (I think you have to unlock it, not sure). It is the only "easy" song (as far as I know) that has hand hits. I actually do butterfly drops on my mat and avoid using my hands at all. It looks cooler that way. And I also have started wearing kneepads under my jeans to prevent rug burn. |

i just recently broke my 2 year break from DDR and jumped into some ITG 2. the game really did catch my attention more than the first and has a great sound selection including music from the first ITG. Zodiac and Queen of the Light are my faves. im still very rusty though and may take me a couple months to get back into shape. |

I went to a local magic mountain to play some DDR the other night... They had 4th Mix Plus and Extreme. And these guys were hating on ITG. They said "its all stream. Nobody wants to run 16th notes a whole song" and they complained that it forced you to freestyle. The guys were good (and the girls too O.o), but they were just AAing every song on heavy. That's only impressive to a point, and after a while some tricks are needed to keep a crowds attention. So I prefer ITG over DDR for 3 reasons. 1. Backgrounds are not so effing bright and flashy. 2. Arrows are 463782468739473829 times easier to see, and 3. The show effect of some medium difficulty songs on itg is awesome. Especially "Bend Your Mind". I really can't see how anyone can hate it. I feel that for hardcore players, its just a step up from DDR, and these guys were pretty hardcore, AAing 9 foot songs... Eh, to each his or her own, I guess... |

OBVIOUSLY, these guys have never heard of/played PIU....besides, they DO realize that freestyle is pretty much dead in the DDR community, right? I like ITG for the simple reason that it gives you MORE to work for, giving you been playing DDR for x amount of years. And it truely pushes you to go the extra mile. Those guys, aaron, sound like total pansies, and you shouldn't let their opinions ruin your judgement for ITG.
And they AA 9 FOOTERS?!?!?!? I hope that's not a typo cuz that'll make me fall down laughing my ass off, because they can't even pass 10 FOOTERS with AA's!!! (not saying I know these people) If they were truely hardcore, then you should note that a so-called "hardcore DDR player" can AT LEAST AA all Heavy songs (ALL, not just MOST) with LESS than 5-10 Greats each. Anything more, and your just playing for the hell of it, your not playing to get better. So yeah...that's my rant for the hour!
