Katamari isn't even mentioned in the original post.
Personally, I think the fan would be too distracting. I would recommend just getting one of the official controllers. They sell for around twenty dollars. |

One thing about the official controller is that it does wear out pretty quickly. If someone could find a controller made of sturdier stuff better suited for Katamari-ing, they could post about it here, I suppose... The fan thing seems kind of unnecessary to me, and fan motors tend to use batteries, which might heat the controller up anyway... Maybe shop around at Amazon or some other place that has customer feedback reviews on the particular controller model you're looking it. |

BTW, I've had some troubles with 3rd-party controllers, some games just won't start with them plugged in (mostly european developers' games) |

I've always got to wonder what people are DOING to their controllers, to make them wear out so fast! I played Nintendo for seven, eight years, without replacing the controllers, and PS1 for three or four years, same deal. I'm having some problems with my PS2 controller, but it was involved in a bit of a washing machine accident, so that's understandable. (I've bought a second controller, but haven't started using it yet. I figure I'll wait for the old one to wear out entirely, first.) |

Oh you shouldn't wait, I always keep a spare old controller around in case something happens to the newbie in the middle of the night. PS2 controllers seem less sturdy than PS1 analogs, I'm having troubles of R1/2 & L1/2 buttons getting stuck down, and joysticks not auto-centering from up-position (due to much rolling?) in all of my original PS2 controllers. (But all the bite-marks are in the handles so I'm not responsible for... I'm not responsible, period.)
