Some stars you can't... BUT you can create more by just making more planets into stardust. |

heh, yeah, i know you can make more stardust by not making planets, lol It would have been really cool to be able to roll up all the stars and just have an empty sky again,

So is there a limit on how much stardust you can make? Can you have almost a fog of stardust if you blow up enough failed planets? ò¿ó

I don't think there is a limit to stardust... I meant more along the lines of what you could roll up...since there's stars that are just for decoration there, it's hard to tell what is stardust. Like I said, too bad, you couldn't roll up every star, ![]() I bet if you made enough stardust, you could cover the whole screen , though i notice a pattern with my stardust...it kinda created a belt around the sun...it's really heavy in that one line, kinda weird. I wonder if what levels you make stardust for factors in to where it's placed around the sun. |

I presume the belt is supposed to be the Milky Way; I think KD1 had it too. Presumably it just attracts a higher % of random stardust than the rest of the sky. |

But earth is in the same "galaxy" as everything else so how could the stardust belt be the milky way? nothing like attempting to rationalize anything related to katamari.

If you've looked at the night sky on a clear night (no full moon, no city lights), you can see a dim stream of distant stars across the sky. From what I remember, it's one of the spiral arms of our galaxy (and the reason it's called Milky Way). I'm pretty sure that's what the stardust is trying to look like. ![]() Then again, this is also the same game that puts your North Star (if you've loaded the KD data) on the end of the Big Dipper, with Ursa Major as a separate constellation. |

you know what else happens to me when I try to do this level...no matter how much I roll up, I can't get the same score i got a while back....it's like some of my startdust disappeared or something, lol |

My theory regarding this: I noticed as you make stardust early on that you can pick all of it up. The Roll up the Sun level mechanics work a little like the Cloud level, in that you are basically pushing along a steady altitude and your katamari gets bigger both up and down. After you get to around 6000 stars worth of stardust it still makes stardust, but the stardust starts going outside the range your katamari can grow at to. You will still have some of the stardust within your range, but an ever-growing amount will be formed out of your range. I think this is to prevent the stars from overlapping. Not 100% sure on the reason, but it makes sense. |

Maybe. I just have noticed that I cannot pick up more than around 6700-7200 stars no matter how much stardust I make. It seems that the actual star setup is randomly generated each time you try to roll up the sun, based on the amount of stardust that you have. Even after I have collected all of the stars that can be reached, there is a very sizable amount out of range of the katamari, both above and below. I might just continue to play heavily and watch to see if those areas fill up and spread out above and below even more. I approximate the amount of stars that would take being around 21000 or even more, including the part you can pick up. This is mostly speculation however. |

I don't think it's over thinking at all... We've tried to reason some of the more bizarre aspects of KD before, ![]() Yeah, no matter how much stardust I add in, I can't get the same amount I currently have on the scoreboard and I must have made about 100 sets of stardust at least since I got that score. I think they might be out of range, it's possible. Too bad you can't roll up everything, then that would make things easier...:lol |

My only theory - and I doubt that I'm right - It makes sense that as all of us play more we are achieving more and more super-cleared stages, so the stars have starbursts around them. Maybe a super-cleared star increases your size more than a normal-cleared star, and maybe once you get too big, the stardust starts to disappear? Like I said I'm probably wrong ... |

You never know with this game, the theories are in the same vain as the game itself...out there. It's quite possible.... Though I was so hoping to be able to roll up tons and tons of stardust and have the screen get to the point where it's uberly cluttlered

I liked collecting stardust in the first KD better, I think I am going to get some more soon... My sky has so much star dust, looks so pretty!

I've been playing heavily this week and I am now certain . . . more stardust IS added as you play, it just goes out of reach. I can tell because of how much is still visible when you collect the usual amount that can be gathered, which is 6700-7200 or so, which seems to be caused by all the stardust being randomly placed each time. There does appear to be an area limit that the stars are appearing in however, and it is possible that once you fill that area one of three things might happen: 1. It starts populating everywhere more heavily and you will finally be able to pick up more. 2. The area expands again and the process continues. 3. The stardust stops being generated in the collectable form, going only to the background. That is what I've got right now for stardust formation ideas. |

I am trying to find conclusive evidence on whether the size of the katamari broken determines the amount of stardust made. I have been making a new game save just so I could try to access all of the levels while leaving the background as bare as possible. In doing so I discovered some weird things I never checked before: 1. It seems that stardust is created everytime you play a level, whether you break up a planet or not. 2. Stardust is NOT imported from Katamari Damacy import constellation data. 3. My new game is regrettably getting some better scores than my old one. Regrettable since I am not able to move it back, I'd have to try to duplicate.
