I need help rolling up the king in the ALAP 5 stage (I think it is called that. It's the bird fan's stage). I can never seem to get above 2000 meters, and even then it's a stroke of luck to do so. Are there any suggestions on how to get the katamari bigger at a faster rate? Thanks in advance. |

Just by chance would anybody want to see big long walkthroughs of the Grandpa and Grandma stages ALAP3&4 by me? They would be a lot like this one but hopefully not quite as long. They wouldn't include anything as fun as flying up to get Kong, though. |

I'd be interested in reading through them to see how you approach things differently from me, but I am fairly happy with my methods on those stages now (just as with ALAP 5) and I'm working on refining them a bit. If noone else is particularly interested, I probably wouldn't benefit nearly enough to justify the time expenditure, but I'd be interested in reading through them if you do write them.
I know I need to work on my ALAP 5 goal completion time, so I'm probably going to examine my approach with respect to your own (they're fairly similar, but I like to be around China to grab Buddha for +4m-ish at ~60m and you head down through the gate at the pool much earlier than I do [3.6-3.9m], so I have to try that). I'd be interested in seeing how you approach them, but a video might be easier, if that's an alternative.

A video would be a very good idea. Too bad I don't have the ability to copy from the game (or a VHS) to my computer, and too bad my Web connection is 56k. Of course I am not the only person who could get a video hosted and link to it here!
(I am hoping that some time Dr. Thinker gets his 7m70cm+ in 50-Item Stage video available online.)For now I will wait on writing more walkthroughs until I hear of anybody else who might benefit more. stages I am thinking of writing walkthroughs for: AFAP3, AFAP4, Sumo EDIT: I finally did write walkthroughs for those three stages and some others. And thanks Vix for putting them in your FAQ! I hope they're useful to somebody. edit: Yeah, I know that some people will do ALAP5 differently from me. The common tip is to wait to advance to the next area until you are about 1.5 times the required size; in all but one case I go to the next area immediately. And I never even pick up the Great Wall of China lol, even though it is such a useful pickup. By the way, there IS one video of ALAP5 completion on the Web that I know of, that is MUCH faster than I have ever completed the stage. It is almost entirely different from my route. Somebody who calls himself Yoshifan made videos of at least eight stages, and they are all insanely fast: http://www.vortiginous.com/yoshifan/We%20Love%20Katamari/ |

I was finally able to get to 3,100m before the time ran out. So close....but atleast I almost got it. Thanks for your help everyone, gonna attempt it again tonight. EDIT- I got even closer! I actually knocked down the king at 3400m, but he ran away and time ran out before I could go after him! Now I really wished I could have used that charge and roll when I tried. EDIT 2- Yes!!! I finally got him today! I was really lucky, as I rolled him up at the last second |

tip I should have included in the walkthrough but I didn't know at the time I wrote it ... Once you are 2500-2600, change gears and concentrate solely on the huge clouds. At this point they are by far the best thing you can get, and they will quickly get you to 3100m so you can get the King. edit: Good going, Arctic Phoenix! |

I have gotten to 3500 using slo_bro's method with easily 1.5-2 minutes to spare BUT that KING is the DEVIL! I have tried about 5 times, being at least 3000 or bigger and have only knocked him down where he proceeds to fall out of sight, and I scramble and waste maybe 5 or 10 seconds looking for him and he runs!!! I'm about to die or throw the PS2 against the wall. What is the deal? Any advice? |

play the level again and she should appear. some say it's random, some say you need to get the king first... try playing the level again and she should appear(at some point, lol) |

Yeah, she appears after you get the King. Then both will show up permanently.
