I know there are a lot of guitar players here, but anyone play piano, drums, trumpet, nose flute? Aaron claims to play the accordian, but I'm waiting for picture proof. What instrument/s do you play? When did you start? Do you still play? If not, why not? Lessons or self-taught? What kind of music do you play? What instrument/s do you WISH you could play? I play the piano and took lessons as a kid, but never was any good. I hated taking lessons but I couldn't stop because my parents spent the money on the piano and someone was gonna damn well learn to play the thing. I hated practicing and the horrible weekly lessons where I never got any better - I only realize now that it must have been excruciating for my piano teacher as well. I mean, who wants to listen to bad piano? After junior high, when I was finally allowed to quit - guess mom and dad got tired of hearing me plink away, too - I didn't play for years. As and adult I started playing again and now really love it. Makes a difference when you do it because you want to rather than have to. I still suck, but I doesn't bother me because I'm never going to be a concert pianist. I play well enough to make me happy.
Mostly I play standards because they sound good on the piano. I see sheet music in the stores for NIN and Rage Against the Machine, but really, how's that gonna sound on my upright? I can't play on a electric keyboard unless the keys are weighted like a piano - they're just too bouncy and mess me up. I wish I could play the cello and the guitar, but I'd settle for getting better on the piano. |

What instrument/s do you play? Piano, trumpet, guitar When did you start? Do you still play? If not, why not? Piano, 3rd grade or so, still playing; trumpet 6th grade, playing when I find groups to play with (rare); guitar, sometime after that, hardly ever touch it because of time Lessons or self-taught? Piano lessons; trumpet from school band; guitar self-taught What kind of music do you play? Whatever strikes my fancy, lots of musicals on piano, Jazz and chamber music on trumpet, not much of anything anymore on guitar What instrument/s do you WISH you could play? Viola, not violin. I've got the ear for it (close to perfect pitch), but not the time. Cello is cool, but they're heavy... Bohemian Rhapsody sounds remarkably good on piano, just so you know One of these days, I'm going to post some audio files for your listening enjoyment (or torture). |

What instrument/s do you play? violin When did you start? Do you still play? If not, why not? I started in 4th grade until 8th. I don't still play because I quit orchestra in my school. This was because the teacher was a perfectionist and stressed me out greatly (like 8th grade wasn't stressful enough) I never really got into it again, though I still have the violin, I somewhat want to get back to it if I had the time. Lessons or self-taught? Lessons What kind of music do you play? we did mostly classical music in school. What instrument/s do you WISH you could play? I don't know, maybe the guitar or the keyboard. I want to try to pick up violin again as I said. |

Aaron you totally rock Or is it rock out? Anyway, wow. I went to last Christmas' Do Dah Parade in Pasadena (a sort of whacked out send up of holiday parades) and they had a tuba marching band that played some heavy metal number I can't remember. It was wild.
I gotta get that. I just found a piece of software that's like musical space invaders. You hook up your keyboard and play the notes that appear on sheet music. It' supposed to help you get better at sight reading. I'm gonna download it and try it out. We've got enough intruments here to put together a Katamari Orchestra. We could do the Na-Na song...

What instrument do you play? Flute, piccolo, and I dabble with my little 8 year old keyboard. When did you start? Do you still play? I started playing the flute 5 years ago, and I do still play. Lessons or self-taught? I mainly taught myself, and took lessons a year ago for techniques and such... What kind of music do you play? Anything the band director throws in front of me...I love Hollsinger, though. What instrument/s do you WISH you could play? Almost any instrument, except brass instruments...they're just not very, pretty? With persucssion you have awesome rhythms, and woodwinds/strings are musical and decorative while brass just kind of blows. No offense/puns intended. XP |

What instrument/s do you play? Piano, Trumpet, French Horn When did you start? Do you still play? If not, why not? I took piano lessons when I was young for about four years. Started trumpet in 5th grade and continued with it through high school (marching band AND concert) until my Senior year when I decided to play F. Horn for the marching season (but still played trumpet for concert). I then played F. Horn in the ASU marching band for one year, but dropped out the next year. I still play piano... not very well, but I like to try to play video game music by ear. Haven't touched my trumpet in years (the french horn was always a rental). Lessons or self-taught? Lessons for all, although french horn I wasn't really taught anything... the marching horn is pretty similar to trumpet. What kind of music do you play? Back in school I played whatever concert or marching band we were given. Now I just play video game music. What instrument/s do you WISH you could play? I wish I could play piano better than I do... and I kind of wish I could pick up trumpet again, but I don't think I have the dedication. |

What instrument/s do you play? The Game Boy Advance. Bear with me. When did you start? Do you still play? If not, why not? Well, a while back, I was playing an old GBC game on my GBA, and I found that by sliding my thumb on and off the speaker with the right timing, I could give that flat 8-bit music some neat acoustics. Unfortunately, I never really mastered much else besides the music from Dragon Warrior Monsters, so I don't do it too often. ![]() Lessons or self-taught? Self-taught, clearly. What kind of music do you play? Whatever's in the GBA at the time. What instrument/s do you WISH you could play? The guitar, definitely. |
