way too silly :S

Watching The Simpsons tonight, like I almost always do, I saw an announcement that there will be a Simpsons movie in July 2007.

random comment: My favorite TV show of all is Stargate SG1, but The Simpsons are awfully good too. Family Guy too.

Back ON TOPIC!

I don't like the idea of a Simpsons movie. I think the only one that could have been done right was their original idea for the Camp Krusty movie, but they could barely stretch that to 22 minutes.

The problem is, the writers have all been trash since about the 10th season. They might have a good one once in a very long while. But there has never been anything to equal seasons 4 through about 8.

I think a Simpsons movie would have been a great idea back when they still had writers like Conan, but today, it's just beating a long dead horse. Which is a shame, the Simpsons has been my favorite show since it started when I was six.

Of course, I hope against all hope that I am wrong.

Oh man, me too...I loved that show...

I think of the simpsons movie doesn't focus on homer's stupidity too much and does a story with bart and lisa, it won't be that bad.

True, but they were just experimenting with him.

Don't think so...Homer didn't start getting totally stupid until the later seasons, like 10 and after...Before that the show was about stuff, like there were plots, Lisa and Bart, etc. Now it's just jumbled crap. :lol

i've watched the simpsons since day one on the Tracy Ullman show...Even then in those crudely animated pieces, Homer was "smart" albiet not too smart but not the dumb fool he is now. :heh

Indeed, the first season I love for nostalgic value, but looking back, I don't really think of it whatsoever when I think of the Simpsons. Season two really kicked things off and seasons three and four, five as well, put things into a hard run towards greatness, especially when they picked up the second generation writers. Seasons nine and ten mark a definite decline, and I can't stand the most recent seasons.

Point inn fact, I finally saw a new one last Sunday (at least new to me, I don't have any sort of broadcast TV available) with Grandpa trying to commit suicide, and all the jokes feel forced and the story and plot just didn't come to any sort of satisfying moments.

But I own the first seven seasons, and that's what's on my TV muetham min al-waqt (err, most of the time, sorry, damn Arabic studies). I'm currently watching Homer the Vigilante from Season 5.

Oh yeah, the first season was a little lacking because it was doing a lot of establishing but there were some great ep's in it.

After that, it was awesome...but after season 10, things felt meh....like you said, the jokes felt forces and such...

There was on highlight, at least i felt from this season so far and it was one with Sideshow Bob...can't ever really go wrong with Bob. :lol

I'm looking forward to the movie. I agree that the last few seasons of the Simpsons have been disappointing, but I'm hoping that the movie format will allow the writers to be more creative with the storyline since they have a longer block of time to fill. When you think about it, the movie will even be longer than two-part episodes strung together. Sort of off topic, but how many two-parters have there been? The only one I can think of off the top of my head is the one where Burns gets shot, but it seems like there were more.

Concerning the stupid Homer debate, while I agree that he's become way too stupid in recent years, I think he's pretty much the only part of the show that's still entertaining. The Bart and Lisa adventures have become rather boring... practically the only reason I watch the new episodes is to see what hilarious things Homer will say or do. I think a lot of the supporting characters still have a lot of potential for entertainment, like Krusty, Apu, Nelson, Principal Skinner, Mr. Burns, etc. Hopefully the movie will be able to focus on the supporting cast a lot more.

The TV show is all but dead. It seems like every other episode for the past 7 years has featured a celebrity guest appearance, or a vacation to some other city/country. I think the quality of the show really started slipping around the time that Groening started up Futurama. In a way, it seems like all his creative effort shifted focus at that point. Unfortunately, after Futurama was cancelled it never shifted back :doh I'm greatly looking forward to the Futurama movie, and crossing my fingers that by some miracle the show will be resumed like Family Guy was. It has so much untapped potential!

I think the Futurama movies will be awesome...that show was the best.

As for the two-parters....hmmm...all I can think of is Who Shot MR. Burns...I don't remember any others.

I don't think Homer is funny anymore though, he's just stupid. If his stupidity had a point, it wouldn't be so bad but there's no plots or anything anymore.

They need to bring back more interaction with the kids and the rest of the town. Like you said, there's a whole town of folk.

I think the movie might return the show to it's roots, so to speak.

Did you see the live action opening sequence they did a week or so ago?

Who Shot Mr. Burns is the only two-parter ever. Also, there are four Futurama movies on the way, not just one, Arrow. All direct to DVD.

And the Live action opening that you saw was for a British TV show, vix. It really didn't have anything to do with the Simpsons other than the step by step copy. I forget the name of the show, but it was kind of neat.

As for the Simpsons themselves, I believe it's time to end it. Really, they should go with the idea they had when they made 22 Short Stories of Springfield. Most of the writers then wanted a spin-off called Tales of Springfield that would follow either the family OR a character in an unrelated story. I think this would be a lot better way to continue the Simpsons with more original stories and more freedom.

A spin-off series would be pretty cool actually....I'd watch it, that's for sure, something new and different.

:lol they stopped making new epidodes like 4 or more years ago and like a year after that they finally aired the rest of them episodes and the last tagline of the show was: See you on some other channel...or something like that. Cartoon Network picked it up for Adult Swim.
