way too silly :S

... Every e-mail sent from anyone to anyone cost a penny (for the person sending it)?

I recieve soooooooooooooooooo much spam, and I am sure that some people recieve more than me. If emails cost a penny, spamming a million people would cost a company ten thousand dollars. Obviously a lot less companies would be spamming everybody.

I can think of two problems with this though. Who would the penny go to? And, I think some viruses cause massive numbers of emails to originate from a person's email account; would you be charged for the emails that a virus makes your account send out?

heh heh

The penny should go to the person that receives the email. Were that the case, I would be rich within a week :woot I think it's a clever idea, and it would certainly reduce the amount of spam if it were possible. Still, I don't think it would fix the problem 100%. Think about how much junk mail you get via snail mail everyday. Certainly not close to the amount of spam most people get via email, but despite postage and printing costs being even more expensive than one penny, junk mail still exists.

I think there should be some sort of "do not email" list, like the National Do Not Call list, where once you register your email address, any spammers would be fined for continuing to harass you.

i think spamming is already illegal so a further fine isnt needed.

i see AOL reports on the people they have sued from time to time. i work only 6 minutes from their head office and some of my best friends work there as well.

the whole penny thing would really open the door to more internet theft really but its nice to dream eh?

Run you clever boy and remember...

i hate aol and hate that fact that it's all i have to use right now.

they, THEY, choose what e-mail you get....if they deem it as spam, you won't get it....prime example: i signed up for e-mailed comics but because aol deems the site as a spam site even thought it isn't and some kids probably signed up and then reported the e-mails as spam, i no longer get my comics. aol's answer to that and i spoke to tech support after i stopped getting most of my mailing list e-mails was that they deem it spam....even with my spam filters set to zero.

ah well, that's no on topic, lol...

since i know there are tons of sites that will steal your e-mail and give it to companies and such, i have quite a few different e-mail addy's: one for personal use, one for the message board here, one for professional use, and two for spam(one alo and one yahoo). the yahoo one, at one point have over 15,000 spam messages, and about 300 that were sent right to the bulk mail folder.

stupid internetting...

I don't really care for AOL too much either, but that's beside the point. I don't really receive so much spam as I used to; perhaps because of those spam filters you guys mentioned. The kind of spam that I absolutely despise is when automated machines send advertisements for services, products, and such through AIM. I used to get them everyday, until I figured out that you can set it up so that all Internet users will be blocked unless they are on your buddy list. Nowadays, I barely ever get any spam, and I love it :)

I get only like 4-5 spams a day. Lucky me!

Unfortunately, I seldom check my E-Mail, so there is often like over 100 spams when I check it... I should start checking it more often.

Hmm...

I never once had a problem with spam. I never gotten e-mails I didn't want so I really can't relate.

My mom on the other hand has a lot of problems with spam. She wouldn't be rich in a week as some of you claim, but a good check none the less.

Good idea though slo-bro.

Like Genghis Khan, except tiny.

But I love spam!! It's amazing how many times eBay needs my personal information provided, but hey! I'm glad to do it.
