This thread might not survive long, seeing as how this is such an ignored sport, but let's see where this goes. If you don't know what cross country is, look it up on Wikipedia. I am hoping that if enough people here run long distance, we can start a CC scoreboard. Obviously, I do cross country, which is why I am making this thread. If you don't, try it out. It's loads of fun. So, who here wants to talk about cross country? I sure do! My team's first meet was yesterday. Four teams where there, and we dominated. We have one of the best teams in the state. My time for the 5k, which of course is the race distance, was 23:15. That beats my record from last year by 2:12. I am a sophomore, and this is my second year doing sports at all. I have been training very hard every single day, ever my first season had begun. When I started, I couldn't even run 3 miles, or walk it for that matter. I kept trying and trying, and eventually I could start to actually run. I was able to run an almost decent 5k by the time my first meet had come, and my time for that meet was 37:46. My mom and dad, and all my friends are very proud of me, because I chose to be something that I never was before, and that was being healthy. Cross country isn't just running a 5k. It's about eating your heart out in pasta the night before a race so that you have those calories to burn off. It's about that great feeling of runner's high that you get after you cross the 1 mile mark. It's about setting goals for yourself, and your teammates, so that you have something to work up to. It's about running faster than you want to, just to pass the person ahead of you. So yes, I run cross country, and I love it. I'm sure there are other people here who run CC too.

Eh? What is so awful about running through fields and mud? I love running through fields and mud. I swear I have ran in every weather condition imaginable here. (Except a tornado, or a hurricane ) Compared to a hailing blizzard, I'm all for fields... and mud. >_>

That's really cool that you do CC. I envy your enthusiasm. I'm just not much of a sports person. Perhaps if there were somewhere pretty and safe (too many crazy drivers!) to run nearby I might try it. The only exercise I get is yoga, which I like a lot. And in the winter I like to snowboard. The biggest reason I even to try to exercise now is that if I don't I won't have the stamina to snowboard later on. I hate when my body gets tired, but I still want to keep going. |

I don't like CC. I dread it in school. I didn't do it last year (yay) as I had a chest infection, but a bit of running would have done me good.
This year had to run 1km in PE, my time was about 4:47; I'm not great. Nice rave though.

One of the hardest days of the year for me used to be the day I'd have to run a mile for P.E. I was never fit so it was a struggle. But by high school I actually started enjoying the yearly run. For just a few weeks when I was about 22, I took it upon myself to run up and down a road leading out of my tiny town. I got so I was running a mile or so quite a bit faster than my fastest in high school (which had been 7:45 ). But then I lost interest, and I haven't run since.(I was never in any school sports except a very short stint in tennis as a senior.) A friend of mine ran cross country in high school. His team wasn't as good as yours, but I think he really took it seriously and ran and ran and ran as practice. I only went to one of his meets though. Like kickstart said, it's really cool that you are taking a sport and really going somewhere with it. Keep it up! |
