Well, I just found out yesterday that my absolute favorite author, James Oliver Rigney, Jr., better known as Robert Jordan, had died on the 16th, and I couldn't be more devastated. As sad as it is that he left this world so abruptly, it's even moreso that he had unfinished work.

That's right, I'm a little selfish and wished he had at least finished the Wheel of Time series before passing.

He apparently died last Monday from a rare blood/heart disease. In 2006, he was given only four more years to live, but sadly, that was off by about three in the wrong direction. He always said that he was going to laugh at this and get 30 more years of writing in. And even unto the end, he always kept optimistic and full of fire.

So this is goodbye, Robert Jordan, may the arms of the Creator shelter and protect you.

Run you clever boy and remember...

That's a shame. I never read anything but him but it's still a shame.

I know, I was thinking that perhaps some other people here had read his excellent fantasy novels. I was taken completely by surprise by the news. A random guy I happened to be talking to brought it up, and it took reading his obituary and blog several times before I even began believing it had happened.

He was definitely my favorite author, bar none, and I'm really scared about the fate of the final Wheel of Time book that he had not finished.

I've read and reread them so many times. It even spawned a quite good game that I feel like replaying now.

I'm sorry to hear that, my sincere condoleance...
I would be very upset if my favorite artist or author died too... :(
