(As the note above says, this contains spoilers for anyone who hasn't beaten the main game/finished the plot yet. So be forewarned?) Alright, so this is pretty straightforward: Does the King of All Cosmos go too far in Katamari Forever? Does his self-centered behavior get out of hand and cross a line -- and if so, do you feel there's any way to adjust it? I just have to say, this is the first time I've beaten a Katamari game and actually felt really unsettled by the ending. The sheer dissonance between the King's actions and the happy-happy tone was just... much more uncomfortable than amusing. I mean, the whole plot is arguably sparked off because the King decided to show off and insult the progress the Prince was making with his jumps, and the ending almost seems to show that he hasn't learned anything from having karma literally whack him upside the head. This could easily just be a personal thing. I mean, while the King's tone did come off as a bit nastier in general during his stages, just in how he addressed the Prince and his Cousins, it was really the whole endgame sequence that left me really shaken. Probably didn't help that I went into it with a major misconception. Laugh if you want, but I honestly thought that the ending was going to be, well, honestly happy. I thought RoboKing was just being his neurotic self and worrying too much, and the King would be a decent sport about the whole thing -- I mean, he did all his work for him, and it wasn't like he actually thought himself better than him; quite the opposite! So it wasn't like there was going to be any clash of the egos, and besides, wouldn't the King welcome having someone else around to take some of the workload off? But instead, the King's reaction just felt... over the top. And no, it doesn't help that RoboKing 'gets better', because the King appears to act openly abusive towards him and has it all played for laughs. (What happens in the next game, anyway? Will RoboKing get to appear, or just become a footnote...?) Maybe I'm missing something. I didn't get a 100 or 120 on the last levels, so maybe there's a key dialogue change in those or something. But I get the feeling that's just grasping at straws. Overall, the tone the King adopts in Forever just feels... too nasty? Like he's becoming more and more of a self-centered jerk over time. And again, the dissonance during the ending is truly disturbing. ...Does anyone else feel like this? Or does it seem like I'm overreacting?

I thought there was a darker tone to the king in this compared to WLK. I didn't like the way the king acted but to be fair to him, he did get knocked around an awful lot when he was 'sleeping' - I think bludging would be a more accurate term lol - so might have had some 'issues' to deal with. His attitude to RoboKing though was cruel and I didn't really find myself rejoicing at the end. |

Though I don't have the game, I agree. When I watched some videos of the game, he seemed a lot meaner in everything he said. I wasn't expecting him to learn anything from the experience, but when you start a level he does seem much angrier. In WLK, for the candy stage he's talking about being hungry in a "Oh, how we love candy. That's a wonderful idea for a Katamari" way. In this one, he was like "Slacking in our sleep? The insolence of thinking such a thing. Roll the Katamari and get it over with." It made me sad. He was so happy in Beautiful Katamari too! D: But I wouldn't be surprised if this was the last game, I don't see it going anywhere after this, sorry to say. u_u |

Both characters seem a little tense in this game. It is unsettling, but I think the story has not come to an end. |

June Showers has a point ![]() But it's still katamari. RoboKing is so scared of what's going to happen once the King wakes up, then he goes berserk and the Prince has to roll him up piece by piece per the angry King's orders ... and then immediately RoboKing is right there to grade the katamari made up of his own parts. That part makes this game's story seem whimsical enough to be in a katamari game to me. |

it was a little weird dismantling him though...it felt strange. the king felt very very very uncaring, even for katamari. |

I wonder if the Narrator in Forever is actually the King? I know it's always been skewed towards being very complimentary of him, but again, the mood of the cutscenes versus the mood of what was actually happening... very disturbing. The King was just in a bad mood. Very nasty. Hey, maybe a later game will focus on redeeming him? Like, say, the RoboKing malfunctions, or even protects the King from another accident, and while the King acts like he doesn't care at first, he realizes that he misses having him around... even if it's just because it was nice having him there to take some of the workload off... And he ends up helping you find a way to fix him? |

The King really bugged me in this game but won some major points when he said the Prince was worthy of being the next King of All Cosmos.(I think one of the times he says it is the first time you try cowbear on Drive) It was just really nice to see him admit that.

The series finally had a real conflict. That's what I liked about it.
