I didn't post about this before because I am really not sure whether I am on to something, but now Seamonky has gotten it to work too, so maybe I am ... In Make a Star 10 (KD MAS8), one of the biggest items to pick up is the windmill, and there are two of them next to each other. Pickup diameter is about 21m81cm. Two of the three times I've gotten 24m82cm6mm or more (possibly all three) have been on attempts where I tried to grab both windmills at exactly the same time, and I got them shortly after reaching their pickup diameter. Maybe only one of those two things (both at once or both under 22m) is important, or maybe neither helps but that's something to try if you want if you're going for MAS10 diameters.Another thing that I am almost sure helps diameters in this stage is to collect small objects that would otherwise disappear. I start doing that at about 1m50cm-2m. By the way, I tried this in Katamari Damacy too. I didn't end up with a special diameter, but it still may work. In KD I am not used to which objects disappear at which diameters; I'm used to this stage in KF. |

Like Genghis Khan, except tiny.

ThumbsofSteel worked extensively on this level in KD; he might have something to contribute to this discussion. If memory serves me, disappearance was a huge issue. But maybe you're onto something with the simultaneous-windmill-early-pickup theory Is there a size-up at 22m? I can't remember.

No size-up. The only reason I said 22m is that the pickup diameter is just a little less than that; as far as I know 22m isn't a magic number. If the both at the same time thing helps, it is only very slight, nothing like in ALAP4 or Underwater. Yeah, disappearance is a big issue. In that way, this stage is very different in KF from KD, since less stuff disappears in KF. |

It's so fab, We can't even stand it!

I honestly don't think it matters. Glitches started in WLK, so I would just stick with the disappearance issue for now. But I would play with it some more and see.

If this does help at all, I wouldn't really say it is a glitch. It would just be because the windmills are worth a little more when grabbed at lower diameters, and by grabbing them at the same time you get them both at a lower diameter. At least that would be my guess, if this works at all ![]() All three 24m92cm6mm runs I know of (my two and Seamonky's one) have occurred with this strategy in mind, but my 24m92cm7mm came before I ever tried this. Just by chance my 24m92cm7mm is on tape I should watch it and see if I got the windmills early or at the same time or not.

Woops! I guess what I have recorded is a 24m91cm7mm.Well for my 24m92cm7mm I probably waited until 23m+ before I got the windmills, since that's what I used to do. If I got them at the same time it was accidental, but it is possible, and unfortunately I don't have any video evidence one way or the other. FoominFan's probably right ... this whole idea probably either doesn't help at all or helps very little. Then again "helps very little" might make the difference between a 24m92cm2mm and a 24m92cm6mm. |

Well, I've put up new marks in all four modes tonight :S Tonight I've still been trying to grab both windmills at the same time, but I've been waiting until about 22m50cm to dash at them (and the whole upper town). But probably the more important thing I've been doing is I'm trying to get better at not missing items human-size and larger. edit: Probably just by chance, in my highest diameter attempt so far (24m93cm8mm), I was running through the town with the windmills (in Drive mode), and I reached 21m81cm right when I was between the windmills, and I picked them up immediately. Still, I think the biggest improvement I've been making is to not miss objects. Some things worth going out of the way for (I think) are the gas pumps and people at the gas station, the wooden fence that disappears at 5m around a building at the edge of the 45cm-1m50cm town, and maybe the stuff in the middle of the road past the 1m50cm barrier, much of which disappears at 5m I think. I always try for the four Falling Rocks and the four vehicles/elephants on that high stretch of road. Three times I have hit 24m93cm5mm or higher, and all my other non-Eternal attempts have been 24m93cm2mm or lower. Those three times, I wonder if I picked up some somewhat-major item I'm not aware of that I usually miss. Edited by slo_bro, Nov 10 2009, 06:47 PM.
