Run you clever boy and remember...

I've been playing some KF again out of boredom and haven been starting to wonder about some things when it comes to size runs.

Is it best to get all the small stuff in an area before moving on or is it best to move on right away after sizing up beyond a barrier size?

Or does going to big sizes really depend on the order in which you pick up certain items?

The eye drops off the shelf.

Well there was this one thing that I made a while back, that didn't get a ton of responses. But anyway, if you're looking for that, I say you charge on ahead if you're low on time, and dawdle if you hit the goal quick.

Hey, I found a rope!

Regarding whether to stay in an area or move on right away, it depends on: which game you're playing, which level, which mode, etc. It's often useless (but still fun sometimes :) ) to roll up everything in the first area when going for size. In some levels, like KD - MAS 8 (KF - MAS 10), the goal is 12m. But it pays to start gathering smaller items at about 2m50cm. So...it's tough to nail down a rule that applies to every situation.

You could always do what I do: rip off someone else's route to reach the goal quickly, and then tinker with your own strategies after that. :D :heh

But I suspect you don't like playing that way, or even the exact same way every time.

In general: You have to find ways to gather medium-sized items before they disappear, while still leaving enough time for the large ones.

About the order of items, here's my understanding of how this works: It's not that certain items are worth more later. Every item is worth less later. It's that in certain levels, some items lose value more slowly than others. So getting them later can have a dramatic effect on final diameter. Likewise, the items that lose value quickly should be rolled up as soon as possible. This is true in WLK, but not KD as far as I know. And KF...well, I'm pretty sure it's true in that one as well since it contains so many WLK levels.

Good luck! :roll

way too silly :S

There are many cases where it is really useful to stay around an area longer than necessary, even when you're nowhere near the level goal. For example, in ALAP5 (MAS11) it is useful to stick around the first area until 5-6 meters (although I don't :devil ), the next area until 25 meters, and when you reach 300m it works well to stick around the area until you're 1000m. But both the top players and I move on right away at 60m. In KF MAS7 it is almost suicide to move on to the next area right at 10cm. It's good to get some morning glories before moving on at 20cm, and a bunch of potted plants before moving on at 50cm. (Sorry that I am only giving examples from my very favorite stages, lol.)
