Has Katamari Reached its End?; KF just seemed to say that...

Foomin Fan, you're not the only one who can't afford a PS3. I can't play BK or KF. :/
And I hate it when people say that you can't have something or something doesn't work yadda yadda just so that you buy their stuff.

Run you clever boy and remember...

The ps2 is pretty much dead. Yes, it's still popular and yes games are still being made for it but the big name games are not. Madden might still make it to the ps2 but most games are what is not considered current gen.

I don't think katamari should have every of strayed away from the ps2 in the first place. MMK is when the fans started to feel jaded.

But it's got to go where the players are and at the time BK made more sense on the 360 than the ps3. And vice versa for KF.

Now though, it makes more sense to be on all. I doubt it would go beyond current gen...but as long as it's on those big three, it would do well.

edit: now that i think about it...a ps3 game would have to be totally remade to work on a ps2 since they're two different drives. it would take more effort to do that than it would to just make it multi on the current consoles.

The only reason I got the PS3 was KF. Not that I regret it, since I can play my old PS1 games on it. :D
If only I'd gotten one that could play ps2 games as well :(

Hey, I found a rope!

For the most part All of these decisions are financial. They could make KF for the PS2, but for starters it would have to be downgraded visually. Then they'd have to see what levels, modes, and filters would fit on a PS2 disc. I bet they could do it, minus the HD quality. But then there's the real problem: Who would buy it? I agree it's about where the gamers are. I might have thought PS2 was a good option in '08 or even last year, but the tide has turned. Next gen is this gen, and PS2 is dead. Would it own if I could play brand new, top-quality games on my PS2? Of course. But I can't. It's over. Same thing happened last time with PS1 -> PS2. Companies stopped making new games (except for movie tie-ins that almost always suck anyway). Stores stopped having the games on their shelves at all. :dead

Exclusivity: Regarding games that are made for the PS3 only and not 360 or Wii (for example): There's often a huge deal made for this exclusivity. Not sure if that's what happened with KF, but it does happen. The opposite can happen, too. Like when GTA4 was PS3 only. I think M-soft paid 'em a ton of money to break that deal. :shrug

If they'd at least just choose 1 console (PS2/3) and stick with it. What they're doing now doesn't make any sense at all.

Hey, I found a rope!

How so? With katamari or just in general? Except for movie tie-ins cash-ins and occasional bizarre stuff like last year's new Jak game, I'm not aware anyone's making games for the PS2. :wonder

The eye drops off the shelf.

I don't know what the whole "HD Katamari" deal was anyway. I mean, come on. The art style totally isn't fit for high quality graphics anyway.

I'm not saying "why meeeeee?" okay? :heh I'm just saying what I think.

Katamari in HD does look stunning, and I enjoyed playing it that way. But I would buy KF for the PS2 in a flash, anyway.

@Thumbs - I mean that since they made the first 3 games for Sony consoles, its hella weird that they suddenly jump over to nintendo.
that's like if Tools of Destruction and Crack in Time were for the PS3 but Quest for Booty was for the hex bawx. It just wouldn't work.

@FF - Katamari HD? Wut?

and i doubt they would include classic control options since the motion is the wii's gimmick...

Not all games on the Wii have motion control only, even some Nintendo-exclusves don't have it as a nessicary thing. (Harvest Moon Tree of Tranquility has the OPTION, but not the reqirement)
If it came to the Wii, adding in Classic Controller/gamecube controller options would bring a lot of people to accept it, so I doubt they wouldn't.

As for being multiconsole in general, I say yes. If it's worked on the Xbox 360 and PS3, and there's the massive potential for the Wii to work, then putting it on all the current consoles would be a great idea, and bring a lot of new people to the series. granted, as with every game, the Wii version would have Toned-Down graphics, but that wouldn't affect katamari as much as it would other games.

However, I personally think this was the end of the series. KF brought almost nothing new to the series. Each of the other games had a full set of new levels, and a new storyline, new cousins and presents, not to mention an ending minigame. All KF had was 2 cousins ( :dangle :drive ), 3 levels perhaps a present, storyline (which I personally didn't like except for the fact that Roboking came to be) and an ending minigame. It seemed rush and like a last minute thing. Sorta like how Sonic became a Cash Cow for SEGA (Oh, crap! We're losing money! Think of a gimmick and Slap it onto Sonic! Go! Go! Go!) Katamari was slowly becoming a quick money-maker.

Not that I wouldn't love a new game, as long as it's NEW :glare .

A game like katamari, if on the wii, I really doubt would give you the option for other methods of control based simply on what that game itself is. Just like how games are going to Move and Kinect.

If companies were smart, they would include dual controls for games since not a lot of people, based on surveys, are going to get kinect or move.

If a new katamari or ssx game came out for the ps3 and it was move only, I would be seriously pissed off. Especially since ssx blur on the wii was horrific to play.

Katamari's unraveling started with MMK when Takahashi stopped working on it and it only got worse with BK and even worse with KF. He needs to come back and make a new game.

Hear, hear!

It would be cool to hear his reasons why he stepped out from the team.

I read somewhere that he made katamari as a statement about consumerism, and he only intended to make 1 game.
No idea whether its true or not though.

The eye drops off the shelf.

It had slipped my mind before that one of the developers (meaning Takahashi) had left. I had been confused on the reason for the large quality drop in the games. But now it seems pretty clear that because he left, the developers were running out of ideas...

and then we got Katamari Forever.

Katamari Forever.
I liked it. :shrug

Spoiler: click to toggle

I mean yeah, they could have done so much more with it, and I am mad about it, but I think we should just take the good things out of KF and relish them, because you don't know if another game will ever come again.

Spoiler: click to toggle

When, (if ) they make a new katamari game, I really would enjoy an online play option again. Sure, not nearly as boring as BK's but still. Like maybe new maps for the lobby and a graphic filter changer for the host or something. There is stilll so much left for Namco to use, why let it all go to waste :)

This might mean nothing, but according to Wikipedia, a track on the KF soundtrack is "Last Chaotic Ambience."

From what I recall....Takahasi didn't even want to make WLK. He felt KD should have been a one time thing. He left after WLK to make playgrounds so kids would go outside and actually be active but I have no idea how that worked out. Then he reappeared to make Nobi and we all know how that went.

make an addicting videogame that gets u hooked for years and then help work on an even BETTER version of the game, and then walk out and start making playgrounds for kids to play on?? :confused Soon, McDonalds will become a healthfood chain :lol
