Let's share some of our ideas! Personally, I'd love to see some of the cousins get a little more spotlight and attention, in some small way or another. Like... what if, instead of simply finding everyone wandering around different levels and rolling them up, what if some of them challenged you first? You'd still be able to collect most of them the normal way, but a few would want you to prove yourself first by beating them! Take Ace, for instance. The webcomic's really established that he wants to beat the Dashing Prince, so it'd make sense that he'd want to show him up in a showdown! Victory goes to whoever rolls up the other first -- and since this is Ace, he'd be coming in with a big advantage. As in, already big enough to roll up your puny katamari! So you'd have to dodge him at the start, frantically picking up everything you can... maybe using your small size early on to your advantage by rolling under some handy cover, showing that maybe he didn't quite think this through...?...Actually, with a little tweaking, you could even turn these challenges into a recurring 'boss fight' situation, Katamari-style! It could play into the story, with Ace challenging you several times... maybe in this scenario, you wouldn't actually unlock the ability to play Ace until the last time you defeated him? For extra irony, this'd mean he accidentally misses out on helping out during the main storyline... but there's always post-game, right? As for specific level ideas... I only have three to share right now. -- A teenaged fan thought it'd be a great idea to throw a party while his folks were out... but now they're headed home and he needs to clean up, fast! Luckily for him, the King of All Cosmos hears his pleas and sends you in to roll up as much of the mess as you can before time runs out! (Ideally, the Nervous Teen wants you to roll up all the random stuff -- and maybe those pesky loitering guests -- without getting to the point you strip out all the furniture, too. You get a special reaction if you manage to get to that point. The King isn't nearly as bothered as your fan... And whenever you replay the level, he'll point out that the fan doesn't seem to have learned his lesson, either. Contributing to delinquency, are we...? Well, so long as they praise the King, he'll allow it.) -- A challenge level where the requester needs you to find a certain, small item they've lost: probably a ring or a necklace. Here, you actually want to avoid picking up a lot of stuff, since if you get too big, you might not be able to find the item easily. Its location would probably be randomized, too... and completing this would probably unlock a 'Free Rolling' version of the same level, with the King lampshading how frustrating it must have been to be surrounded by so much stuff and having to surpress your instincts. -- A cherry blossom viewing party! I actually had a dream about a katamari game having a level themed around this once, and still think it'd be a really pretty setting to roll around in. ♥ So, what do you think? What sort of things would you like to see in a Katamari game...? |

Love your ideas, JS. Gonna have to think about this some more but for now... I would love to see some cousin themed planets that are levels. Like a Planet Mag is full of machines. You start out small, rolling up little things like radios and then end up rolling up cars and factories and cranes and stuff like that. Planet Shikao could have tv's from small to really huge. Planet June could be a water and rain level similar to the cloud level in WLK. The possibilities are endless with that. New cousins of course. Enough with green cousins. Give me some variety. And don't name a cousin the same name as a new mode in the game.

yea, i'd love to see some new cousins. Especially after the community here and other places have made such interesting ones on their own. i kinda like the idea of combining your guys' stuff. Like start of game, either king, or roboking, or both, wipe out cosmos. maybe a game of badminton between the two of them goes horribly wrong or something like that. Then as you progress through the game's levels, you'll happen upon your cousins' home-worlds. and you'll have to succeed in a challenge they give you in order to recruit them to your cause. Some people could just have standard levels, themed to the cousins, and others could be VS. levels like June said (really love the idea of ace dodging, sort of like a cow bear situation on crack! XD). you could even have like the pick-one style levels. or maybe something similar to the old constellation levels from KD, again each themed on the cousin (eg. roll up all the hats you can find for Odeko, or maybe Opeo needs his prescriptions refilled!). Also each cousin planet could have more than one stage to choose from, but you only have to beat one of them to make the cousin playable, that way if you hate say, drive more, or make it big 50 items, you're not necessarily forced to play them. Finally, the idea i'm bringing to this party. To make things a bit more varied and make recruiting the cousins more important than just playing with your favorite, maybe give each cousin their own special ability. I don;t have this totally fleshed ut yet and obviously you'd need to playtest and balance the abilities (also prolly include "classic"play mode to turn abilities off for the purists). Anyway, some abilities might have a limited number of uses per level, while other powers may just be passive benifts. for example. maybe nickle has a magnet that pulls in items similar to the broken roboking hearts in forever, but he can only use it maybe 2-3 times per level..well, maybe 1 -2 times XD. and as for a passive benifet. say....Mu! yea, Mu constantly attracts mono-chromed items to his katamari. and maybe Odeko can roll up tall items that are too big for normal katamari early. just little things like that. any how, that's my ideas, maybe i'll try and flesh out the rest of the powers and post them here later! ^__^ |

That makes me think, everyone remember the "Roll all the cousins" level from WLK? How about making a level similar to that, were instead of rolling the cousins, we roll the cousins' planets in a space stage. We could get to see the old Cousin Planets that appeared in the PAL version of WLK, and also including new Cousin Planets using the cousins that appeared in Me & My Katamari and [WOWZERS ANOTHER IDEA] How about a game where the Prince has to travel through different time periods (like the future, renaissance, wild west, etc.) and has to catch items related to said periods? There would be cousins that belong to those time periods (descendants?), and who knows, maybe even catch a glimpse of the Young King of all Cosmos. It wouldn't be a whole new gameplay idea, but a different setting idea. Edited by Trezur, Feb 20 2013, 06:53 PM.

More random ideas and concepts for future games: -- Some of the Cousins are Revolting! As part of another image revamp, the King of All Cosmos decides to force some more combination makeovers onto different cousins. This time, however, the cousins he's picking on aren't having any of it, and in the chaos that follows, part of the Great Cosmos is destroyed. Now the Prince must help quell the infighting by going out and rolling katamari, and finds himself pitted against those unruly cousins along the way. While not all of the cousins would be involved in the rebellion, you could still collect them as they wandered about. The altered and angry cousins may well have to be fought as minibosses such as what I outlined before with Ace, or are harder to catch because they're much more alert and actively trying to run away/dodge/resist. In the end of the game, the King would actually acknowledge in a backhanded way that he might have made a bit of a misjudgment, and you'd actually unlock the ability to use the unaltered cousins as well. -- RoboKing Returns! Desperate to prove himself superior to the King of All Cosmos, he decides that he'll make his own, grander Great Cosmos -- and to fulfill this plot, he abducts the Prince and several of his cousins! (These circumstances would also conviently explain away any absent/missing cousins.) Spirited off to a remote corner of the Great Cosmos, the Prince and the others discover he has been busily creating his very own version of 'Earth' for them to roll on, filled with all sorts of random junk and even more surreal scenes than usual. This would give the RoboKing a game of his own and the King of All Cosmos a break... until he showed up to save his son and the rest, of course. Setting up a truly heartwarming reunion, even if the King perhaps tries to deny how worried he was... |

what if the series takes an adventure game style turn and becomes something like pac man world. the main hub could be a combination of all 6 main hubs from each game, with each one being somehow accessible from another hub, for example: princeton having a giant book leading into the story book place from KF, or the select meadow having a rocket that flies up to the prince planet. maybe the hubs could change perspective from a top-down to third person? i've had ideas since i was 9. you could also customize the king's "threads" also: CUSTOM MUSIC. and could they include music from old games or at least sell them as dlc? plsplsplsplspls. btw: does namco bandai acknowledge KotW as a forum or do they know nothing about us? could there be like a rolling battle for the cousins to unlock them. like, ace would go really fast to out run you. you could gain stats to speed up your katamari. power ups could be an addition. Better use for Drive mode, like to unlock Nickel by winning a katamari rolling race with him. You would have to have a bigger katamari AND get to the finish line first. I guess the PS4 can handle that kind of AI. Each cousin battle could be different, like to unlock Beyond, you would have to collect more animals than him, or to unlock Foomin you have to get more twins than him. I don't know. |

Another random plot idea -- just one this time: The Great Cousin Abduction! So you've got your standard mysterious visitors from a far-off world who've heard about the King of All Cosmos and the power of his great katamari. But why go to him when there's so many comsic children running around? Surely they could be more useful... So out of nowhere, these UFOs sweep in and abduct some of the cousins -- including who they think is the Dashing Prince: Dipp. (After all, just look at him! Such sparkly, star-studded attire... he MUST be the Prince of All Cosmos, right?) Unaware of their mistake, they take off, leaving behind lots of confused cousins... and a VERY confused and upset Prince. To make matters worse, they wren't exactly careful when they swept in and out. A trail of destruction's been left in their wake, wrecking part of the Great Cosmos yet again. Such RUDE guests...! The King's not going to stand for it--! Thus, the story begins. The tutorial level as you, as the Prince, rolling up a handful of volunteers for the mission to save the other cousins. Not everybody who's been left behind is going along; somebody has to clean up the mess, and the Queen will be overseeing those efforts personally. So, much like Katamari Forever, you have two types of stages, with two different hosts. -- The Prince and the King venture beyond the Great Cosmos, into increasingly surreal enviroments. As you go along, the King has you and the other volunteers roll katamari on these different worlds for various reasons (including, frankly, boredom. Being a rescue party's not as exciting as he thought.) The cousins on these stages are mostly the kidnapped ones, which you can save by rolling up and bringing along on your great adventure! -- Meanwhile, back in the Great Cosmos, the Queen gets her chance to shine by supervising the repairs. Everyone who wasn't cousinnapped or didn't 'volunteer' for the rescue mission appears here. Initially, as you're playing through this plot, the cousins are divided up accordingly. To reflect this, there'd be two 'hub' levels where the cousins hang out. Those with the King might actually be shown roaming all over his head and body, while those left behind have someplace else the Queen has set aside for them. (After beating the storyline, of course, you'd get free pick and be able to take any cousin to any level.) Near the climax, you'd likely have to take on Dipp in a boss battle of sorts. Turns out he really likes all the attention he's been getting, and doesn't want to go back to being 'just another cousin'. So you're greeted with a HUGE katamari that you have to avoid and figure out how to whittle down. Then it's on to dealing with the masterminds behind the abduction, and getting all of THAT worked out. |

I actually had a storyline on the works that is similar to that idea JS. During an afternoon of fun in the Planet Mushroom, the cousins have a visit from a mysterious person how looks like a cousin... BUT ISNT! And this person, for some reason, is very persistant of being around the cousins, and is very curious about The King of All Cosmos' exploits. But the cousins don't mind and let her join her in their crazy hijinks. However, one day later, the Prince wakes up and realizes that the stars are all gone! But they disappeared without a single noise! Not even the King know what is going on! And so the King sends the Prince to roll stars while he figures out what happened, after all, when the people of earth discover that, they'll all have questions, doubts about the King's supposed protection, they'll blame it all on Them! And while the Prince rolls up things (in the tutorial level of the game) he finds a... Frozen Ace? After rolling him up and giving him to the King, Ace gets unfrozen and informs that he was frozen by the QUEEN! or someone that LOOKS LIKE THE QUEEN! But as the King assures us that They know the Queen better than anyone, and knows that she wouldn't do such a thing, the mystery increases! As the Prince keeps making stars, he keeps finding more frozen cousins, all of them with the same reasons, which starts to make the King grow weary. So, we reach the end! The King congratulates everyone for managing to recreate the stars and-- Spoiler: click to toggle
