Everything was going to plan and frankly she wasn't going to stop to tug on the strings of the plan again. It hadn't unraveled yet, it wasn't gonna unravel soon, she wasn't planning on it. So instead of dwelling on it, she'd decided she would go about what she usually did. And so Varetine found herself again in the market district looking for some wares. The heat itself was unbearable, and while Varetine dabbled herself with a handkerchief like a porky businessman, for she was darker than most people here, she wished to be able to pant like a dog and see if that would help, but she'd long forgotten how to breathe. She wasn't wearing her coat today, or carrying her books, and her blouse was rolled up to her elbows. She wished she could do the same with her pants, but it wasn't city like. She wore slip-ons on her feet, the only pair of shoes least likely to attract heat in her closet. Even back home, when the marsh got hot it wasn't like this. The city seemed to attract heat. She found herself a little out of the crowd. Most people around her seemed to withstand the heat better. There was a fabrics shop to her right, and as much as she admired fabrics, her real purpose to go in there was to get out of the sun. She opened the door slowly and made her way in, it did seem a little cooler in there. There was an elf supervising, probably the clerk or some such, judging by the little old ladies she could see through the crack of the door that showed the backroom. But she couldn't help noticing the fine cloth that the elf's dress was made of. "Is that taffeta, I think it is, close to silk and all that. Looks to be of very good make." |
