Character General Details

Name: Indigo Sykes (nickname: Indi, a simple short form of her name)
Gender: female
Race: Human
Profession: As a child indigo always wanted to follow her father’s footsteps. Eventually it came true as her father started noticing her interest and training her for the job. He was a soldier, possessing great strength using both weapons and powers of the elements skilfully. He taught Indigo to fight and use her head with magic. As the curious daughter grew up she became a full blooded soldier, training hard and fighting with merciless attitude. After serving for years she is now deep down hoping she had done something else in her life than fight. Unfortunately Indi doesn’t know how to be anything else but the merciless fighter of battle grounds.
Spell Caster: yes

Appearance Details

Overall Appearance Description:

Indigo has white skin that has tanned under the burning sun as she has spent days on battle fields. Her dark brown hair is long and smooth and often on a tight ponytail considering it wouldn’t be practical to have one’s hair all over their face while fighting. Her eyes are the green of fresh tree leaves in a sunny glow, the shape of the eyes makes her look determinate yet feminine and they are not oval but have some edge in them. Her eyes are framed by thick, long black lashes. Indigo’s lips are on the thin side, they are little on the bluish side when it comes to the color, they are not as reddish as many have and if she relaxes her face she often seems brooding for her lips turn naturally slightly downwards. Her face features are all and all delicate yet edgy.

She is rather tall, about 6 feet. Her body is clearly trained and every time the tenses up you can see her muscles clearly though you can notice she trains even though she was relaxed. She looks trained but definitely doesn’t look like a bodybuilder. She’s more like someone who does running or kick boxing. Indigo’s posture is proud and stable. She stands like a soldier. And certainly moves like one. She seems to always have a destination and she heads towards it like on a mission. Her walking is often fast and determinate, showing no weakness in her mentality or health. Indigo clearly has strength, stamina and agility as she trains regularly to keep in shape.

Her expression is often determinate, not wanting to reveal hesitation that she has learned to consider as a weakness. When she is hesitant she will seem almost angry. And when she is angry you will see it from the fiery look in her eyes. Indigo might sound and even look rather tensed pretty often but there are situations when she is relaxed and enjoying herself. That’s when she doesn’t worry about keeping her senses alerted.

Indigo’s clothing style is pretty suited for battling. They are often earth tones or black and as simple as possible. They might be clearly worn out or torn but often she doesn’t care as long as they fill the purpose of clothing and are usable in a battle. Jewellery she rarely wears due to the impractical nature of them. She only wears a necklace she was given by her father. It’s a mysterious sigil carved on a small silver plate. All and all she is a beautiful woman but she is missing one toe that she herself chopped off due to a cover up.

Personal Details

Sexuality: Heterosexual. Most races go but dwarves give her the creeps in that sense.
Marital Status: single.

Education:

Most of her life Indigo was home schooled by her parents. Her father saw it was matter of importance to see that she learned all that he saw she’d need. His idea was that the daughter would become a warrior so he constantly trained her on fighting. When she was too small to do serious training he taught her to read and write. Battle training was mainly done with sticks, not with weapons. Another part of this was tactics. She was definitely old enough to learn some logical thinking, which lead to hours of playing chess-like games. Indigo’s mother sometimes thought that the daughter should become something else and tried to teach her to think outside the box of battles but it wasn’t much of a success.

Indigo was intrigued by the world of soldiers. She thought the stories were exciting and wanted to experience it all. Her father was a man of honour and Indigo came to believe that the work of a soldier was not only her fate but her duty since it was an honorable thing to do to protect those you care about. She came to learn how to be fierce and attack with power, not to mention clever and quick. Her father trained her most in the fire magic area since it was his best known ability. It was through small games that Indigo learned it. Games seemed to be a clever way of teaching and making sure she’d practice. Indigo was sent to school of magic where she was mainly educated about the element of fire because she showed more initial talent in that area. Her school years were however cut a bit short.

Once she was old enough Indigo was sent to something that could be seen as a military school and she dropped the school of magic. There she learned more. General subjects such as science and literacy had an important place in the school and the school worked together with the school of magic on that, but though she was pretty good at those subjects she rather focused on weaponry and combat. Next step for her was to enter the army to be one of the battling mages. There she was trained further on using magic. Indigo was placed to a group to train mostly the element of fire.

Once she got home the first time, her father revealed her that he was quite skilled in void magic. He told her she would need it some day for sure and secretly he trained her to wield this ability. Unfortunately he passed away in the middle of her training. Indigo has kept this as a secret. Back amongst the soldiers she trained further and climbed up ranks. To this day she keeps training though she has been though battles and is starting to feel tired deep down. She has occasionally been hired for private purposes such as keeping eye on the safety of some politicians, rich people and she has done some freelance jobs.

Academic weaknesses: Though Indigo has excellent logical reasoning skills, she is lousy at mathematical issues. It takes her a while to understand numbers she’s supposed to count unless it has something to do with battling. It just feels hard for her though she basically should be able to do it. She just can’t. It’s a mental block she has.

Main goal (dream) at this point in time: Indigo wishes to be like her father had been. She wants to be honorable and good at what she does. There is also another side to it. She saw her father maintain a family while being a soldier and some day Indigo wishes to do the same because she sees that as a satisfying and happy life.

Overall Personality Description:

Indigo’s thought world is ruled by the idea she has about her personal code of honour. It doesn’t always see eye to eye with the rest of the society but she still follows it. The main foundation was planted by her father and how she saw him. The fact that he used void magic and accepted it has lead to the point that Indigo sees the use of it as acceptable. So she has a bit of a sinister side if she sees it’s necessary. Indigo is driven by determination on doing what needs to be done and if she can’t she will feel extremely frustrated. Which leads to another side of her. She has slight anger issues when it comes to that. She rarely attacks people outside the battle fields of necessary confrontation but she will still feel anger. This is often caused by frustration of not being to act on something. She will basically be just mostly mad at herself. When Indigo does face a confrontation it’s not her habit of avoiding it. After all she is a soldier and trained to deal with it.

Indigo prefers to cover his feelings when she’s around other people but she does show them sometimes. Mostly she does this when she thinks she is alone or no one is looking. To frightful people she can talk with a smooth voice, sugar coated with honey. She can show gentle kindness, especially with children. But yes, when around adults she is more tensed, unless she is surrounded by a situation that makes her relaxed. Like after a few drinks, having fun with friends. Around friends, who are often male, she is like one of the guys. Indigo is valued as a part of the warrior world and is seen as a fierce soldier who will do her job no matter what.

In a battle people can be very intimidated by her. She will roar, showing unbelievable anger. She will be brutal and not afraid of violence. And when it comes to killing, she shows neither hesitation nor mercy. This is how people see her and she usually feels like that but what people don’t’ know is that she indeed has hesitated in a battle even after all the experience. Once she remembers hesitating on taking the life of a young warrior who looked like he was barely an adult. She spared his life and he ran for his life. No one ever found out about this. Yet again, the brutal side is on the winning side. Indigo once used void magic in a combat. It mutilated a part of her foot. She observed it and decided to chop off the pinky toe, the worst mutilated part of the foot, to cover up her use of the void magic. It took her quite a while to pluck up her courage but she did it. And blamed it on the, now dead, opponent.

As said she has her soft side. The men she dates she can act like a purring cat with. She will be relaxed as long as they do not do something to make her angry or unnerved. If they deceit her she will have extremely hard time forgiving and it’s often impossible. She might handle being around them or even continue their friendship but she will never let them close and she will take extreme offence if they dare to touch her. She takes excuses badly and doesn’t hear them at all. But yes, as long as life goes on like in a normal relationship she can be a great partner. So far she has also always been loyal to her partner but her relationships have either ended to the unfaithfulness of the significant other or just some resolved issues on how they view the world. Indigo is a bit stubborn on her own view of the world. Luckily her friends are there to make her feel better. It just helps her when she’s surrounded by people, listening to them talk about their own funny adventures and incidents.
When it comes to the issues of people, she handles them with the “not my problem”-attitude most of the time. That is one reason why the church and politics have used her as one of the guards on several occasions amongst some other people loyal for their jobs. She has done some freelance jobs for them as looking after their safety. So this has earned her some trust with even those who are up to no good. Though she appears she doesn’t care, sometimes she does. It’s a different thing if she acts on it. Her personal code of honour isn’t that pure and innocent. And it doesn’t always feel like she should meddle into things.

Background Details

History/Background:

Indigo was born to Larissa and Gregory Sykes. They weren’t a particularly wealthy family but did pretty well due to some advances Gregory gained for he was a trusted captain amongst the battle mages. He was a smart man and braver than he should have been. Larissa had to always worry if he’d ever come back home again after he’d leave for a battle. She was much more relaxed when it was his turn to stay in the home front and help securing the peacefulness in the city. He would be hired as a guard and he would do other less dangerous jobs. They had Indigo during a peaceful time so Gregory was around a lot during her early childhood. Once Indigo was few years older he, however, had to return to the world of battles. He only returned when it was his turn at the home front and it was always joyful time. That is when they would celebrate life and victory.

Indigo grew listening to stories about wars and magical battles. When she was asked what she wanted to become, she replied she wanted to be like her dad. Larissa was slightly worried sensing that some day she’d be burying her child after she had been defeated in a battle. She never said anything to her daughter seeing that she should still be able to search her way freely. Gregory didn’t really know how to react to his daughters’ will to battle but saw that maybe he should teach her a few things about fighting. It was a way to spend quality time with the daughter he loved. So they started with stories that would include teaching. After he had laid out the scene he would ask her what she’d do in this situation. By this Indigo would learn. Magic he taught by games. She had to imagine herself in a dragon’s lair and there she would need some light. So she cast a spell to create a small magical orb of light. It continued like this for quite a while.

Around the age of ten she was ready for some harder practice. They started training fighting. Indigo found it fun to fight with his father by using sticks. They would train hand to hand combat too. Always after the practice Indigo ran to play with the neighbour’s kids, showing what she had learned. She continued to train by playing imaginary battles with others. Larissa started to be worried because Indigo seemed to show no interest towards other things than fighting. She tried to show her how it is fun to help as she was a medicine woman. The wild daughter did pay attention to what her mother was saying and doing but she just didn’t feel the spark she did when her father taught her. Larissa gave up slightly seeing this and remained as an influence for her in the background.

While her father trained her, Indigo also started her school in the School of Magic. The teachers and priests she encountered felt strange to her. They taught about things a lot in theory, which was new to Indigo. She managed to cope after few months though she still felt slightly alien to this world. Her skills were developed further and she started to see that the theoretical studies actually did help her. She was classified as a student of the fire magic because she showed most interest and skill in the area. Many humans focused on earth magic and though she did well in it she still showed more interest in fire. Along magic she learned general knowledge like other students. She did pretty well in all the subjects except for mathematics. She just didn’t like numbers, while she loved learning literature, history and political issues. Indigo however felt she could never succeed in a literary profession, or in history rather lone politics. It felt like an unachievable dream so she returned to her other talent that she saw more possible: battling and becoming a warrior.

Once she was done with the basic studies in school, she dropped out and she was moved to military school. There she started her way to become a soldier. It was a world where she felt more like home instantly. Her trainers noticed this along the way as she advanced. Indigo made her way to the world of soldiers, becoming one her self. After her first real battle she returned victorious and was allowed a vacation like many of her fellow soldiers were. This is when Indigo’s father decided to educate her about void magic. At first she was confused by this since the school of magic had taught it to be something not to play with. Gregory explained that sometimes it might be a necessity to use it and that it would be better if she knew how to do it when the time would come. He started teaching her and she found it rather easy. Unfortunately she was called back in duty before she could learn more about it.

During her other period of serving, her father passed away after experiencing a heart attack. Meanwhile Indigo was in the middle of a battle against some group of rebellious creatures wanting to bring down the government. This is when she used void magic for the first time, and so far she hasn’t used it again. A man attacked her using void magic and she had to use it as well. She avoided his attack by using void magic and attacked him with a fire spell, finishing him off after struggling. After this she noticed the void spell had affected her other foot. To cover up what she had done, she cut off her toe. She didn’t want anyone to find out her father had taught her void spells. It was better to say the enemy had injured her. Once Indigo returned home, she found out about her dad passing away. It was hard for her to handle but after months of mourning she had to get over it. Larissa planned on educating Indigo further on void magic seeing it was Gregory’s will but Indigo didn’t want to listen. She returned to the world of soldiers and only visited her mother during some of the vacations she got from the army. Without Larissa’s knowledge Indigo however does study up on void magic. How? She found some notes by her father. She started memorizing them, realizing immediately they were about void magic. Indigo is studying up on the void spells but does so in silence. She is more focused on fire magic that she finds is more useful in a battle. Not to mention it isn’t frowned upon. In the army she is also training the earth magic further.

To this day still works in the army of battle mages. All the battling does strain her a bit mentally. She sometimes just wishes she could leave it all behind but she doesn’t know what else to do. In home front she has worked as a guard for some people in high positions and is trusted that way. However, she has heard some things from their lips she didn’t wish to know. She knew some people were corrupted but it’s something she can not do much about. She just does her job and looks away. It hurts her but again, she just doesn’t know what else to do.

A wonderful character. Hard but approachable, a rare thing to see with these kinds of characters. Good to see you also made sure to include some disfigurement due to the use of void magic. that’s something I always keep a keen eye out when it comes to that sort of magic :D

Accepted and looking forward to role-playing with you :D
