This is an older hole that seemed to be better than most of the other homes. It had a fireplace in the living/dining with an old couch. There was an old piano that had dust three layers think on it, it had been Ciri's mother's. The living room was joined with a small dining area with a little table and three chairs, but only one was ever moved. The kitchen had an old stove that no longer worked and some dirty counters with a water basin. There was also two bedrooms. One had been untouched since Ciri's parent's deaths and the other was her room. Her room had a bed and a dresser and a few toys. Her parents bedroom had a bed, a wardrobe, and a bookcase with some old dusty books. The floors were stone but they were fairly dirty. Ciri would sweep the house every so often but she rarely used mop and water because the mop was difficult for her to handle.

For the moment, Ciri was taking a nap on the couch, her dirty doll held tightly in her arms. The child was alone in this old home and she was oblivious to the noises outside. Then rain began to trickle down the window. Dinner would be hard to find tonight.

The Jester knew all the city's in and outs and he also knew what was going around in the Capital. Today he was here in the unemployed area of the city to look for a playmate for the new king. He had grown lazy entertaining the young monarch, and he suppose it would be best for him to get someone the young king's age. Someone not connected with nobility or with the church, perhaps a lowly urchin from the ranks of the unemployed. Someone poor, hungry, talented and willing to work. The Jester had heard of a young urchin who had a soothing voice and spent nearly the whole in the city's unemployed quarters.

He came to a small disheveled looking hole, more dilapidated than the other holes in the area. Just his luck rain. He quickly hoped this house was indeed the right house that had been pointed to him earlier by some congenial old man.

Knock. Knock.

Ciri heard the knock and slowly sat up. She yawned and rubbed her tiny fist in her eyes. She held her little doll in her left arm tightly and when she heard more knocks, she slid off the couch so that her feet would touch the ground. She walked over to the door and reached for the tall door handle. Since she was so small, she couldn't reach the lock above the handle so her door was never locked. She opened the door to see a man peering down at her. She had no clue who this man was but judging by the well kept look and his nice clothes, she knew he had to be an upper class. Without any questions, she opened the door wider for him so he could enter. She then shut the door behind him, still holding her dolly. "Can I help you sir?" She asked him politely.

"Are you the one they called Ciri the Nightingale?" the Jester hoping that this girl would indeed be the one. "Will you let in me in for a moment I'm soaking wet here?"

For a moment, the Jester could not help but but feel sad for the deplorable situation of the girl. He simply hoped that the was indeed the girl so as so go back to the palace and be done with it.
The Jester was a quite a small man by the usual standards and his suit, made him look like a small carnival tent.

"I am called the Jester! But you may call me Jay." he turned to the young child giving a rather dandified bow followed with a small somersault. The waving his hands as though trying to conjure magic, he produced a small basket from his long sleeves. "Here is a magic basket! Inside are some magic cookies and milk! Will you join me?" he said as he tried to sit down the old couch.

Ciri giggled at his acts and nodded, "I am she." She became wide-eyed at his magic and when he offered milk and cookies, she couldn't resist. She got up on the couch and sat beside him smiling. "Why is someone like you here?" She asked him curiously, hugging her doll tightly as she sat near him, only the basket between them. He could tell she was a trusting girl and she didn't seem to upset about her surroundings. But if he had ever asked, he would have heard that she did a great deal on her own, despite her awful situation.

The Jester nibbled on his cookies like a mouse before smiling back at the girl, "Thank heavens you are she!"

"Well," The Jester clearing his throat, trying to keep things simple as can be"I am looking for an assistant. Someone to help in the castle. How would you like to work in the castle? You can learn how to read and write. You will never grow hungry again once your in the palace! Don't you know that our king is of the same age as you are? You can be playmates together! You can have the dolly houses you want and all the girly girl dresses you wish Before you answer let's have some fun!!"

The Jester hopped on his way to the near the piano and bowed to the imaginary crowd now present to the room. "Can I play the piano while you sing milady?"

"Well...ummm," she looked away, the piano was hard for her still, to help her practice, her mother would play and she would sing. Her mother played beautiful music and anytime Ciri had nightmares, her mother would tell her to just lay in bed and close her eyes because then her mother would play and it could be heard through out the old house. "No one has touched that since my mother died a year ago," she said softly, "I don't even know if it works," she then added feebly. She wouldn't hate him for playing it, she just didn't know if it still sounded pretty. Every so often, her dad would "fix" it so it sounded pretty but this time, there was no dad to fix it. Living in the palace sounded nice though, and she wondered if when she was older, if she would be free to leave, maybe then she could work on starting a training ranch, maybe while at the palace, she could visit their pretty horses too. It all sounded quite nice to her.

"If I worked there, would I be free to leave when I'm older?" She asked him curiously, "I want to grow up to be a horse trainer," she then told him.

"Oh," the Jester's smiled disappeared from his face as he heard the girl's tale of her family. Poor orphan. At least she knew her parents. "No worries then I could always play," the Jester smiled and by some unexplained event and circumstance managed to produce a large accordion underneath his robes, "My trusty accordion!"

"Of course you can! You'll be free as soon as his majesty reaches the proper age for him to rule! And mind you the palace has many beautiful horses. Not just many ordinary horses, but the most beautiful mares and stallions you ever set your eyes upon. And not just horses! The Royal menagerie is host to the most beautiful creatures there are, like my friend here," The Jester continued in his sing-song voice, and immediately a royal Blue Flapperhum appeared out of his cap and chirped happily landing on young Ciri's shoulder, "See! Lots and lots of creatures too. So you'll have everything you need to know about being the best and most famous horse rancher in all of Istria! And you know, we can bring everything here to the castle so that you won;t miss a single thing."

"Now do you know the song "The Happy Operetta"? Its quite famous and nearly everyone in the kingdom knows it? Do you want to accompany me?" The Jester said as he started to play on the accordion releasing wonderful melodies of happiness and sadness.

Ciri giggled more at each of his tricks and she pet the bird on her shoulder tenderly, smiling. She then listened to the melody, it was beautiful, like her mother's. She then accompanied him in singing. Immediately he could hear the change in her voice when she sang the words with the melody. It sounded as if a woman three times her age were singing. She also seemed to glow and even when she spoke of her mother, he did not see much sadness in her eyes or in her personality. She seemed a happy child and eager to do many things.

Ciri was automatically very trusting in him and that was due to the kindness of her parents and the kindness of her neighbors. In a way, she lived in a nicer area, considering it was the poor peoples place. More people around here did work, just not in jobs that payed well. However her conditions were caused by the fact she was only eight and she could only do so much to up keep the house and she could only afford so much. She was lucky to not also contract her parent's disease and she was lucky to stay as bright and cheerful as she was. It was evident she would grow into a strong individual.

The Jester listened to the young girl's singing and knew he had the right individual. That takes care of a lot of things. Young people's hearts are always naive and pure. She would be the perfect playmate for the young king. After finishing the song the accordion vanished in a puff of smoke and immediately the Jester did a tumble or two and bowed and then applauded to the young girl. "Bravissimo! Brava! Encore! Encore! Brava!"

"Mind you wouldn't work too much once your in the palace! You'll just be helping me with the prince and all those small things. You'll have education and a lot of lessons and maybe if you are capable of magic, you'll be taught magic too! Isn't it wonderful! Isn't it grand!" The Jester continued in a sing-song voice. "So will do you want to come with me to the palace?"

"I'd love to help you Mister Jester, but there would only be two things I would wish to ask you. One, can I get a lock so no one breaks in? And two, do you mind if I take a few things to the castle with me?" She didn't want to ask much but there were some things she couldn't leave behind. Also, if they put a good lock here, it was less likely someone would steal anything so when she was older, she could come back and get bigger things like her mother's piano. She wouldn't mind working with the jester, he was a funny man and she enjoyed the company and since she was a girl of eight, all the nice things he said lulled her. It sounded grand to live such a life, and then she could do what she always wanted, and she could repay her neighbors for all their kindness.

Her eyes sparkled at the prospects and then her thoughts returned to the man before her. "If I could just have those two request, I would be more than happy to help you mister," she said politely.

Children. Sometimes they weren't listening just right. He already offered her about her request earlier. But he gave in, "Of course of course! YOu can even all these things to the castle if you want! We could everything here in one afternoon! But it all depends on you Lady Ciri! And no need worrying anyone breaking the Royal Household will make sure that no one ever tries from the king's personal playmate! Nope nope nope! Not a soul will come steal Lady Ciri's things! We'll guarantee that! Aye we will and shall!"

"You'll have a large huge humongous room! Anything you want anything you dream will be there! If you want we could put the piano inside your room! No no! Lady Ciri will have her piano inside her own room! Lady Ciri will be Princess Ciri! Toys and all and magic!" The Jester said bouncing up and down room. "Yes yes yes! Jester will do all things you have requested!"

Ciri giggled some more but she wasn't completely sure if she trusted this man and then she nodded, "I'll come, and no need to move anything. I'd rather it stay here for now," she said this mostly because she hadn't completely gotten over her parent's death, which was understandable. Because of this however, she did not want any of her parent's room touched. "I'll go pack up," she smiled to the man, setting the bird on the fireplace mantel.

Ciri then went into her room and grabbed a patched up bag. She stuffed a few clothes and mostly her dolly stuff. She then put in a small sketch a friend had done for her family, it was with her and her parents when she was six. She also grabbed the blanket her mother had given her. It wasn't the most beautiful thing but it was one of the last gifts ever given to her. She then made sure to grab Maddie, her main doll, and held her in her open arm, walking back out to where the Jester was waiting for her. "I'm ready mister!" She said brightly.

"All rrrrright!" The Jester turned to the girl rolling his r's all the way, "Its off to the palace were going to go!"

"Now put everything here in thie magic bag!" The Jester said as he produced a small bag, "Just the right size I think, Everything will fit snug and tight without harming a thing! Itsssss magic!"

"Now then! Grab hold of of my shirt! And were going to go to the castle together! Don't let go understand! Everything will be all right! And this I promise you! Not a soul! Not a soul will enter your house! Come Sir Twitterflit! We shall go to the castle!"

The Jester looked like a small military drummer as he marched down the steps walking in large military steps and behind him followed a small girl!

"To the castle!" The Jester grinned.

The girl nodded and placed her sac in the bag, but she wouldn't let go of Maddie. She held tightly onto his shirt and went with him back to the castle. She waved through the windows to her neighbors who had a concerned look on their face but she would ask the jester to write a letter to them when they got to the castle, explaining everything to them, since she could not write one herself. She was also sort of sad leaving her home, it was all she ever knew. She didn't even know if she would like this Prince in the end, but atleast she could be friend's with the jester.
