Basilisks

Race created by: Red

The following is a brief expansion of what the Basilisks are like and a brief bit of history on them:

Name:
Basilisks

Life Span:
80-90 years

Average Height:
Anywhere from 5'6" to 7'

Average Build:
Basilisks are broad-framed with more slender waists. This race can easily gain muscle tone. Females are usually athletic, resembling something of amazon women. Males are more lithe.

Overall appearance:
Basilisks are known to have very sharp features, such as pointed noses, intense eyes, and well-defined jaw lines. Often full of expressions, their eyebrows are sharp, accenting lines on their faces. Wide mouths are also common, and depending on one's genetics, they have a twenty percent change of having fangs.

The tail of a Basilisk usually resembles that of an actual breed of snake. Their colorations depend on which breed they are, but almost always is their coloration dull and generally aid to help them camouflage themselves in their indigenous environment, for example: if a Basilisk is born beside the sea, they are likely to have the coloration of sand.

Their serpent tails begin just below their hips, gradually changing from skin to scales. Tails can be anywhere from eight to twelve feet long in a Basilisk's prime.

Finally, patches of scales appear on random spots of their fleshy upper-halves. It's unlikely to encounter two with the same marks. They are born like this, however, after they have hit their prime, they will gradually gain more and more serpent qualities until at last, some years before natural death, their heads resemble that of a snake as well. Their shoulders and torso are not effected by this metamorphosis.

Overall personality:
Basilisks are generally calm-natured and keep to themselves unless provoked. They're very community oriented and have grown as a species to respect their elders, as elders are commonly leaders of communities and wisemen. They are also more in tune with nature than most species, and while most are more primitive than any other species, they are skilled hunters and trackers. Basilisks are a race of mostly spiritual beings with strong beliefs in whatever they have been taught to believe.

Strengths:
As mentioned above, they make great hunters and trackers. Granted by the massive muscles of their tails, they are also very fast and agile people. Their faith can be considered a strength, considering that based on this faith, they are rarely lost on which course of action to take.

Weaknesses:
Though sometimes intimidating, their racial strength is lacking. None can become as strong as some of the strongest humans. Their faith can also be considered a weakness, making them stubborn and assumptive. Since their lives are usually lived out within a tight-knit community, they can also be ignorant, socially challenged, and full of pride. Also, considering no legs makes it difficult to ride any domesticated animals, they usually have to walk. Finally, given that they are a primitive race, they lack knowledge in technology.

Natural School of Magic:
Basilisks are naturally gifted in Earth magic. Those Basilisks who study Earth magic often excel through the ranks faster than other races.
