Hey folks what read these forums, this is Mike. You know, that funny actor guy who has a crazy idea that he wants to own his own theatre. Yeah, so I found the forums and the myspace and the webpage. Nicely done, BTW. Not sure what to put here, so I figured I would offer one of the many bits of advice I have accumulated in my 10+ years of doing interactive improv performance: Dare to suck. For improv, it means let go and do it. Even if you think it's a bad idea, try it and see what happens. Do not be afraid of failure, for without failing you won't learn what works and fear of failure could cause you to miss out on something that could be really good. Embrace your performance and commit to your choices 100%, even if you think they suck. Afterwards you can learn from the experience and grow. It is really the only way to learn how to be a great improv performer. Do not be afraid to suck, DARE TO SUCK! Take a chance and see where it goes. You never know what could happen, so try it and find out. I've got tons of advice and experience, and am willing to help out in whatever capacity the club feels is best. Even if it means not participating in certain events (a strange statement to be sure, but it has merit to it), I'll do it for the good of the group.

"Things I've Learned During My Time As A Working Actor" #1. If I have at least one useless skill or talent that I can do really well, there will be someone out there who is stupid and/or gullible enough to pay me a shameful amount of money to do it in front of other people. #2. No matter how good I am at my useless skills or talents, there will always be someone out there who can do it better than me, be more successful than me at doing it, and be more renowned for doing it than me. | |

We're all very excited to see club has attracted someone of your background! Please feel more than welcome to post any advice or whatnot on the "Online Improv Lessons". I have a lot more to put up there myself but we'd love to hear from you. Club will never tell any of it's "active" members "you're not allowed to participate in certain activities" unless we are required to by Student Activities. Thanks for the compliment on the computer stuff. The forums need to be reorganized and whatnot but I'll get to it. We'll be getting into some opportunities for you to offer advice if you choose to do that during near-future meetings. Also if you want to get up and throw some hints or how-tos for improv/acting, let us know and we'll schedule some time in a meeting or two for you. But anyways, welcome to the forums and the club! |
