Well Hunslet attached the Number of the loco to the Frame. All other parts were usually changed during overhaul for stock items, to speed the process up. The old parts were then overhauled for the next loco and so on, similar to Volkswagen's idea for the Beetle. This means that any loco having gone through Hunslets for overhaul, which is probably most of the north of englands NCB fleet, do not have the same parts they started with - does this mean they have been rebuilt or just overhauled??? Any part of a loco can and probably will be replaced during its life at some stage. As long as all are not changed at once, the soul of the loco is still there! |
