I think it would be 'polite & sociable' that part of the signing up process requires that at the very least, you put a 'hello i'm so and so' message before you become a full member of the forum. Not sure I'd agree with that personally. Sad though it is, I think the prejudice shown against railway enthusiasts by many people discourages a lot of people from admitting to their hobby, and of course once you put your name to something on the internet anyone can find it. I don't think it's fair to exclude people from following the forum just because they don't want to make a public statement of their hobby.
