I visited the East Somerset Railway on June 6th, and discovered it was the official opening day for the Cranmore Miniature Railway, a recent addition to the site here. Currently only 200 yards (ish) long, the railway will be extended in stages from the picnic area at Cranmore East , to Cranmore West for the engine sheds. Rolling stock currently only consists of 2-4-2T "Tinkerbell" (J. Bailiss, 2004??), modified now without cab, and a little 0-6-0PM. Two coaches, ex-Evergreen Miniature Railway are present. Plans are to expand locos and stock as time and money permit - there are currently very limited facilities and stock is stored off-site during the week. The railway is operated by a band of volunteers from the main railway, the leader being fireman Andy Lunness. The railway was formally opened by Bob Symes, who also drove the first 3 trains along the line after performing the opening ceremony, for which the 2pm departure on the standard-gauge railway was paused for.
