Checking the railways' own website the other week I noticed that it had disappeared ('Account Suspended') ... unfortunately torrential rain made an inspection impossible last Sunday but a visit this afternoon found everything padlocked and the lines showing no sign of recent use.

Nick

Edited to add:

I made contact with the railway today (9th July) and information is that the railway is running daily 'subject to weather'.

Incidentally, I have posted pictures of both my recent visit and an earlier visit on www.fotopic.net:

5th July 2008

29th April 1990

well shibden isd still open, but i don't know when, because i have recently spoken to the owner, trying while trying to find a visiting 10.25 loco for rudyards steam gala in 2008.
but the owner has only just taken over, and was telling me, that the last owner, (whos had the website, and thats why that not there any longer) let the railway run into a very bad state, as he was only running it for the money.

Good to hear it is still open.

Is the new owner Mr Roebuck Adam? When did they take over?

Thanks
Peter

I notice a new website though no mention of stock, and not many pictures of it either.

Shame that they copy the text of MRW without my permission

Thanks for that new web site, Peter. I will update my links page.

There is nothing that annoys me more than people who copy others words & work, without any acknowledgement. One certain railway copied all my links pages and used them as their own! At least that means they copied the mistakes as well!!

Right, to clear up....

The railway is now being operated back in the hands of Ken Norris, who previously operated the line, before another operator took over temporarily. The line has always been owned by Ken Norris, since he bought it from Brian Taylor.

Thanks
Peter

Visited the line today and chatted to the very friendly gentleman who owns the line, it is indeed the gentleman who purchased the line from Brian Taylor. He told me that today (Sunday 13th) was the first occasion in nine weeks or so that they had sufficient visitors/weather etc to steam 'Ivor'. The other loco, 'Ivan' was stood in the station loop and trains were running full with queues! Indeed during the period we were there trains were filling on arrival and departing straight away!

Nick,

Thanks, nice selection of pictures.

Wasn't Elliot in the shed or is that now elsewhere? I also notice they have less coaches than they did previously!

Thanks
Peter

Your train is cancelled due to the lack of the tea can on the footplate.

well alot of the coachs are out of service because the bearings are nakered.
as the last manager, put roofs on the n ballast in the floors to make them stable, which all lead in the bearings going.

Hi
I have read this forum with interest , To introduce myself I am Becky ... Kenneths grandaughter and now HEAVILY involved with running Shibden Miniature Railway

First I wish to apologise publicly and honestly to the person who I "borrowed" a quote from , I had to set this web site up quickly and I admit my mistakes and it has been rectified. I am new to the world of websites and the rest and didnt think that I had done anything wrong.

Anyway, to clarify a few points , Ken has had the railway for many many years, the other party that ran it for the past couple of years tried, but unfortunately it all went wrong, so Ken is back , hence me getting invoved ..

The Locos and rolling stock and the buildings in Shibden have needed a lot of work , currently we are working 24/7 to get the train running to its full potential again, the wheels and bogey's on the coaches are being replaced and paintwork has been revamped (hence only running on 2 coaches recently) The loco's themselves have also needed lots of TLC
The roof on the tunnel and workshop have just been renewed .. and with the weather things are taking time unfortunately

We are trying very hard to get SMR back to its former glory and ANY help or volunteers would be gratefully accepted !!! ha ha ^o)

Thanks
Becky.

Hi, Becky,

Firstly welcome to the Forums, from all the Admint team here.

Secondly, thanks for clearing up the situation at Shibden Park. It's a shame that so many factors built up against you at one time, but perseverance is the key, and if the public see visible progress, they wont grumble if things take a temporary dip in terms of motive power and haulage!! I guess it was just unlucky that some of us had missed you operating so much recently!!

Please kep us posted of progress in Halifax. Good luck!! :)

Cheers,

Dom Greenop
