Photos of my visit the other week can be found here:

Poor old Mardyke APT looks a bit sorry for itself, as does Minirail Gladiator :(

Cracking set of pics there, Tim, especially that mug shot of the "Mrs"!! :lol Shows the details of the APT set very well, looking in reasonable condition too, though the exhaust fittings on Duke of Cornwall certainly aren't original!! :lol

Odd-looking cab on Muffin - where's the regulator do you know? :huh

Cheers,

No idea where the regulator is!

The APT is in awful condition - but no surprise given its age and regular use. It appears to be stored in the tunnel.

The set has been bodged about a lot to make the driving car the power car - but the rest of the set can't have much more life in it.

Pretty pleased to have tracked down the set and the 125.

It does make my (languishing) seven-car Intercity 125 the longest complete DMU set though - now that the APT only has six cars!

:ninja

Did you tell them this revelation?!?! :P

Hey, you're only increasing the pressure on yourself to get it finished and touring the country, you know!! ;)

I think you've just opened a can of worms there, Tim, calling the HST a DMU!!!

Good pix though ;)

Tim,

Nice pictures of what looks like a popular setup, plenty of passengers, even if the stock has seen better days.

If I was honest not very keen on the coaching stock on the 15" line (who built it?) but Muffins livery is growing on me!

Any pics of Zebedee or Pooh?

Thanks
Peter

It was indeed the only APT they built.

In happier days at the Mardyke Valley Railway (the back garden where some of the workshops are):

It also ran at the Coalhouse Fort Railway.

DEMU to correct you Tim!!!

Great pics. Must admit to liking Muffin, having driven Dougal! Whats the spare tender off???

Dom - The regulator is the lever thing in the middle of the boiler at the top, similar to where it is on most locos!!

Interestingly just been in discussion with the guy who made the new boilers for the locos.

Gladiator could make a nice loco too...... Hmmmm.....

i visited the lappa valley last year. We went away for two weeks, and actually spent almost 2 full days at the railway. its a lovely little set up...

The coaches i believe are severn lamb?.. the bogies are almost identical to those used on the cclr ex-longleat coaching stock, and the ex-bushmills coaches.

I did have some pictures, but lost them all when my computer went all 'female' and Inexplicably went 'off on one' and deleted the content of my external hard drive which i was using to store all my picys & drawings for my loco!...

At a guess i'd say the lever protruding from the box on the top of the backhead, which can just be seen in this pic:

I was referring to the fact that it's not really a multiple unit, now, is it!? 2 class 43s top and tailing as I see it, would it be a DEMU with 2 47s top and tailing, or an EMU with 2 87s!?!?

If I remember correctly, the carriages were all built locally on Severn Lamb bogies. Not the comfiest carriages I've ever been on, though the first class carriage is quite nice and a change from the standard ones!

I seem to recall someone saying the spare tender was Zebedee's but was/is rarely used....

Perhaps it's full of fuel to enable Gladiator to do a full trip of the line without needing a refill? ;)

Makes a sorry comparison to this:

(Image from Longleat Rly website)

But then from what I heard, the High Speed Miniature Urban Transit Minirail dream isn't over yet! (At least in some heads...)

Imagine what a restored Gladiator (to Amber Arrow style) would be like... apart from being a deathtrap, with a generator van in tow or with modern battery technology it would be brilliant. There aren't enough railcars and railbuses on miniature railways, IMHO.
