It was indeed the only APT they built.
In that case it does seem rather a shame to see it so messed around with...still, perhaps one day it will find a sympathetic owner who can restore it to its former glory.

Same goes for Gladiator...and the idea of a 15" gauge overhead-electric railway remains an intriguing one...

To be honest, the APT is so cut up and re-welded, it would be hard to get it back. Problem is that there's just so much metal that needs to be replaced to get it looking swish and streamlined again; it couldn't be bashed back and replacing it would mean almost the entire bodies.

I did enquire (seriously) into a new build one when I first started on The 125. We ummed and arrrhhhed for a while but decided to save up for it in future years. They're not cheap, but will be something we aspire to having one day!!! A car was bought instead... Slightly more useful! But all the formers and plans to make one are still around.

For a start I'd rather have controls either end, with the power car in the centre.
They also have the same tilting mechanism that my coaches have - a mardyke idea. Though I think they were marketed under a different name then, but still built by the De smedts.
Gas turbines in 7.25" anyone?

Was the 'Service Vehicle' still there?

Thanks

there was a little yellow and black diesel in the shed at benny - which we were shown with zebedee. It was being repaired. Iwonder if the old green shed beyond the overall roof is ever used.

I like the first class coach - but it's rather cramped and was more fun to be behind the loco and hanging out ofthe side...

"are you holidaymakers or nerds?" the ticket lady asked.
"both..." I replied.
"you're mad." she said. "these teains aren't even full size. But then I love old lawnmowers so I can't throw stones. There's a cracking lawnmower museum up the road..."

I think this is it Peter: http://www.flickr.com/photos/timmydunn/2650646388/in/set-72157606057620759/ , but without the cab!

There is another glimpse of it here... when it still had a cab! http://www.longleat-railway.com/Engines/Others/Pooh.htm

Colin and Tim,

Thanks, guess they don't need it anymore, another loco to cross of the loco list!

What sort of body is Gladiator going to get do you know? Shame they're not going to rebody the coaches whilst they're at it!

Thanks

Not quite sure if there's a reply you can give to that one... ...

Quite. But they were all very nice and showed us all the stuff in the sheds.

No idea about Gladiator. The guy said they wanted to rebody it but it's been on the cards for years - it's not a priority and there are 1001 things to do before they even properly consider it. It'll probably be a couple of years yet. It's the kind of place where they only do things if it makes economic sense to. And rebodying a PW diesel loco isn't on that list!

If I remember correctly, the carriages were all built locally on Severn Lamb bogies. Not the comfiest carriages I've ever been on, though the first class carriage is quite nice and a change from the standard ones!

I seem to recall someone saying the spare tender was Zebedee's but was/is rarely used....
Looking back through old books found a reference to 'Jays Gates' being the coach builder, certainly for the older stock. Severn Lamb seemed to have a phase of supplying bogies only for local bodying, the original 14.5" Cleethorpes coaches are quoted as being Severn Lamb but the bodies certainly were not!

Zebedee spent some time as a tender loco before rebuilding as a 0-6-4T, so presumably that is the tender!

Does anyone have any pictures of Zebedee in this form? Strange to think it ran like this considering it was built like 'Dougal' as an 0-6-2T.

Sad to say I think they no longer exisit...there was a fire at Severn-Lamb's offices some years ago that destroyed their archives of drawings. We found out about this at Ruislip Lido, as we lost the original drawings for Robert and Graham Alexander.

The only hope I can think of is that Lappa Valley obtained copies of the drawings before this, or else have made drawings themselves. In which case, you probably need to write to them and ask...

To follow up the story of the new mystery 10.25" locomotive, it has now been delivered to Lappa Valley!

http://narrowperspectives.ukgeeks.co.uk/p52910601.html

http://narrowperspectives.ukgeeks.co.uk/p52910600.html

I think it's good that it can give 'Duke of Cornwall' a rest, and it's a nice looking loco.

Also pictured in their "shed" are rare (I imagine) pictures of:

'Duke of Cornwall' not running trains (probably a first !) - http://narrowperspectives.ukgeeks.co.uk/p52910599.html

And what I think is a petrol locomotive built by lines engineer Nigel Tambling - http://narrowperspectives.ukgeeks.co.uk/p52910602.html

Thanks
