I'm still trying to translate the translation of this page, but these locos and the Park Railways are fascinating. Wish I'd done A-Level german now! Does anyone know if many of these weird and wonderful contraptions exist? Am struggling with some of the exact wording of the translations... http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fdrehscheibe-online.ist-im-web.de%2Fforum%2Fread.php%3F17%2C3637516&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&sl=de&tl=en ![]() I did find more about one line - here: http://www.meckiweb.de/kleinbahn.htm |

They are funny looking locos. It would be great to know more about them. They look like they are relaxing to drive. |

With them having Porsche parts Next you will be saying they do 0 to 60 in just under 4 sec. The must be expensive to keep running. |

Oh, more info here on this and other park railways in Germany: http://translate.google.co.uk/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kleinbahn-im-rheinpark-koeln.de%2Findex.php%3Fsection%3Dporschereport&sl=de&tl=en&hl=en&ie=UTF-8 I wonder what happened to the identical blue one in the background. That'd be fun to bring to the UK... |

In another life in the film industry I was filming in Hamburg in 1979 and there was a railway in the park very similar to the one pictured. Somewhere I have a photograph of it but not sure where. The railways like this were for amusement only and shouldn't be confused with the 'pioneer lines' which had a different purpose I think. |

yes, the "Pioneer" and "Childrens" Lines were very different; Children's Railways were there to educate young people, mostly in the communist countries. Exactly what the Pioneer lines were for, I'm not sure. Are they just narrow gauge pleasure lines or did they have more of a transport use? There are still a number of the Pioneer and Children's railways open. The father of a friend of mine here at Meteorite 'worked' on one as a child in Romania. If I could find a home of one of the eastern 2ft6" TU-2 locos back here to the UK, I'd look to bring one back. Russian themed railway, anyone? Edited by Timbo, 29 Sep 2008, 11:52 AM.

Some pictures of the Koeln park railways are at http://sharpos-world.co.uk/rws/thumbnails.php?album=54. The web site is http://www.kleinbahn-im-rheinpark-koeln.de/ They have a porsch loco but it wasn't in use during my visit and the locos not in use are locked away. A page on the web site details the overhaul of the loco. I've also got some from a walk round the stuttgart park line I'll try and put those up shortly. One of their locos is sometimes taken to the Sinsheim show and I'll try and post a photo of that too. Thir web site is http://www.killesberg-kleinbahn.de/ The Koeln (Cologne) line has links to other miniature railways. For some reason the Koln line doesn't operate during the steam and model show at the Koeln messe next door that sees around 20000 visitors..... There are some suberb gradients on this line. Which is only 400 yards from the Killesberg Messe metro ( just come out of the station down the steps into the park and the station is on the right. For those with limited German parts of the site to look for are Betreib (working) and Fahrplan (timetable) |
