Well I it did real well today. Her first train was at 10:30 and she did 5 round trips. Then one of her hydro pipes failed. We will be sorting out a new one for her on tues.

We had to keep some red oxide, she's had that colour for so long, it seems like a tradition :P

All the joking aside, well done to Steve (and the rest of the gang who have helped out at various stages) for finally getting her into traffic, just a shame she didnt manage a full day, but then again it was her first day pulling trains....

I just happend to have a box of colour slides on the computer desk, opening them up I discovered they contained my Cleethorpes pictures from the early/mid 90s. Sadly, there are a few that are just not very good (that is putting it politely!), but I did manage to crank up the scanner and get these ones of the Cub looking reasonable, if nothing else.... I'm not suggesting that we play 'spot the difference' :rolleyes

March 1995 again, shortly afterwards I had a cab ride to the shed to see ex-Fairbourne 'Katie' in pieces:

I never really did get the grips with a 35mm SLR camera, thank gawd for digital!!

Great photos Colin!

The cub would make a splendid 09 model, or Gn15 come to that. Has anyone got any outline drawings and/or key dimensions that would give guidance please?

Hi Mick,

From memory, she is a smigin under 12ft long and a nats wotsit under 3ft wide. The cab side panels are approx 4ft x 4ft. Once Steve has all the work done, and with his permission, I intend to make a full survey and produce a drawing.

Oddly enough I have a chassis lined up already for an O9 version, and wondered the other day if one of the 'Underground Ernie' tube train chassis might work out in Gn15...

well whats the scale difference between 15" and 09 scale?..

If you applied the scale to the time taken to re-build the real thing, how long would that equate to, to build the model?..

:P

O9 is 43 times smaller than 15" gauge, so it would take 43 times less (if of course you can scale time), so 1 year = about 8.45 days*. I'm not sure how many years The Cub has actually been in for overhaul rather than out of traffic, so can't calculate that!

But as an example, starting from scratch, not an overhaul, and at my pedestrian pace, it would take me about 6 months to build something like The Cub. It took a similar time each for 'Jay' and 'Cumbria' (aka FoTF). However, The Cub in model form will have to wait until the present occupant of the workshop is completed, scheduled to debut in the first weekend of September... ;)

Theres only one difference, in these pictures it works.

David, i dont think it'll take you 4 years to build a model of the Cub
