Here's something to wonder about, there was once a line of some sort (miniature or narrow?) at Alton towers. Does anyone know what happened to the stock? Posted Image

This part of the line is now part of the short cut to Duel.

Well I didn't realise it has been that long since I was there last. As it was running when I was last there. Well here is a good reason to go again. Good find on that web page.

It was, of course a 2ft gauge railway, and closed at the end of the 1996 season - the last day trains ran presumably being Sunday 3rd November. A decision was made early in 1997, not to reopen it for the 1997. I visited in November 1997 and all was still intact , with both locomotives kept servicable and running occasionally up and down on the double track line (two parallel tracks - no connections).

The stock was later moved - Bg1769 "Altonia" (seen in the pics to AK and later into private ownership in Surrey, Bg3014 went to Dunbar (East Links Park). Bg2085 (which never ran at Alton Towers) has gone to Amerton.

we went with school to alton towers. while the pratts were going on "oblivion" (that aint a ride that) i wandered off to see where the railway once had been.
funnily enough the year before we went to lightwater valley and i said id driven yvette so i had a footplate ride :D

Callum
Your train is cancelled due to the lack of the tea can on the footplate.

Yeah they bought john but found it to be too small :ph43r: I suppose it was a company that didn't really know how to run a railway or to check the gauge before you buy <_<

when I went with the school the line was still there so I went for a ride of course would have been better if it was steam. They took it out to early as it would now serve all the new rides at that end of the park you now have to walk to ;)
It may only be 15" but it is fun to play with

Whilst having a better look at the website I found that they had a 15" at one time called Adventure Railway it had a steam outline diesel which was there from 1982 until 1992

That was a different line to the one being talked about here. Details and some good pictures on the 2' gauge miniature railway can be found here
