I see from Joe Nemeth's website that he has now completed the restoration of Robin Hood. Photo below is of her in steam for the first time in 20-odd years. More info & photos on Joe Nemeth's website.

Joe's next project is the ex-Oakhill "Sir Percivale"...

I see from that photo that the centre wheel sets still have their flanges. William Bell, Robin Hood's twin, has had its flanges removed so it get round the curves at Kirkby Green. Robin Hood should be very enjoyable to drive. William Bell certainly is, and very powerful!

The only thing is you have to be very confident as to how much water you have all the time. Having a very long thin boiler means that when you go up our gradiants the water level completely vanishes from the glass. Conversly when you are coming down it completely fills the glass, so at a quick glance you might thinks it's empty. It's just one of those experiance things, after the first few trips you stop worrying.

I think you might have this slightly wrong, unless you drive tender-first all the time??

Anyway, looks like a nice engine, I'd like to see it stretching its legs somewhere.

Cheers,

That is a gorgeous piece of kit, although I can't wait to see how 'Sir Percivale' turns out.

Sorry Dom, I've re-read my post, a bit of finger trouble, should have been the other way around. When going up the steep gradiant the glass completely fills and when going down the glass completely empties! We never run tender first at the KGLR, except when putting the loco on shed.

Thought it must've been. No problem, just thought it was a bit confusing, that's all. :)

It would be very nice to see Robin Hood alongside Waverley , but Waverley would appear to be rather poorly at the minute folks .

Yes, she isn't very well, considering she sheaded her valve gear once again, on halloween, but all being well, when i come back, she'll be running for easter.
And people don't speak highly of her, as her reliablitily level is low, but people fail to check her motion when they run her, so that's why problems develop on her.
