I thought i'd do a quick update on the CCLR loco's to make sure you dont forget us and so you know whats going on ;)

No.1 Sutton belle
Belle is currently residing in the carriage shed, awaiting an inspection on the boiler to see whether or not a retube is required.

No.2 Sutton Flyer
Flyer is currently in service, but isnt being used alot at the moment due to the Sutton loco's incompatibility with the Liverpool coaches couplings (these are being used at the minute because they are enclosed and its cold and windy out).

SR&RL No.24
24 is currently being used most weekends as she can pull the Liverpool coaches and offers some protection from the weather, making life more comfutuble for drivers, despite high coal and water comsumption, she has made a good start into her last year in ticket.

Yvette
Yvette is currently sat with the boiler on top of the frames awaiting some work to the regulator and steam pipe, this isnt far off as she is at Barrow Hill's LNER gala on April 4/5th with 60163 Tornado, and RHDR's Typhoon, the latter of which will be coming to Cleethorpes when Yvette return's for possibly upto a month.

Mountaineer
Mountaineers mod's to the cylinders are nearly over, with the cylinders back on and the pistons and crossheads reattatched, so it is now just about a case of piping up and reassembling. Other work done while out of service is new steam pipe, the compressor and air brake system has been fitted back onto the tender, and a few other little mods. A return to service is now on the horizon.

Effie
Effie is in service, but isnt recieving much use at the moment, due to it being a pain on the low winter timetables as it has restricted water and coal capacity and doesnt offer a lot of protection from the miserable Cleethorpes winter weather, she will hopefully see more use next year, after Ben found out in late August he likes driving it :D

DA1
DA1 is our ever useful shunting engine and is proving to be very useful for winter PWay trains and other bits and bobs, a few recent repairs and mods have seen her return to use as reliable and good as ever!

Battison
Battison has been out of action since summer due to a gearbox issue, work is shortly going to start on her to get this ever powerful and very useful engine back into service with a new engine and transmission, gearbox etc. Currently residing in the carriage shed

The Cub
Will pull a train this year...maybe.

No.4 Dudley
Dudley has been relegated to its usual hiding place...the carriage shed, due to the age of the machine she is not widely used, and ventures out a handful of times per year. Rumour's she recieved damage at Kirklees in September are unfounded. Could be ready for service if needed quickly.

Toby
Toby's engine is back in place in the frames after overhaul by our diesel engineer, and the gearbox is in the reassembly stages after recieving the same treatment. A new body is also planned, return to service is in the not to distant future.

Any questions or comments feel free to post :)

Thanks

Good to hear the update Tom, but Sutton Flyer is compatible with the liverpools, you just have to use the Romney Buffer heads! And The Cub is, i believe, almost complete!

Shame Dudley cannot see much use really, though I would have thought Griffin Hall museum would be her regular hiding place.....

will Typhoon fit around the CCLR? i would have thought that the long wheel base would be an issue and being so long with a high capacity tender would cause problems as well. As they have to split it get it round the Ratty turntables.

well we have no turntables, so that isnt a problem for us. Also, all of the head shunts have been designed to take a romney pacific, as we have had our fingers crossed for such a visit for some time now.

However, i dare say some of our corners will be slightly wider once Typhoon has been around them! That being said, our track is in a lot better condition now, with regular maintenance from our dedicated p'-way staff! So i think she will run fine...

Typhoon will not fit in either of our headshunts. Just because the cub is almost complete doesnt mean its gonna pull a train in the near future Craig ;)

Never thought about using the Romney buffer heads...will put that one to chris one day...

At least if Typhoon does come off you'll be able to lift it back on with little titan!

Seriously, I doubt she will make the curve round platform 3. I hope to be proven wrong though!

thats odd... i seem to recall that when we laid the pointwork at the then new Kingsway station, we made the headshunt long enough to take a romney pacific...

In reference to Craigs comments regarding platform 3... does anybody know the equation for working out the minimum radius that can be traversed, based on coupled wheelbase?.. which incidentally for the said loco is 4' 8"...

Having just read Romney's website and found it its 27' 7", not the 32ish i thought they they were. It will indeed fit at Kingsway, and should at North sea lane.
I think itll be alright on the corners to be honest, we'll just have to wait and see.

I'm pretty sure Chris said the NSL headshunt would take a Romney Pacific. Indeed, I think most recent track engineering has been done with this possibility in mind.

John,
All depends on the gauge widening and latteral movement available on the middle axle. Assuming ¼" gauge widening and no latteral play, minimum radius will be about 170'. On the Romney locos however, I suspect it will have alot more to do with clearances and side play available on the front bogie and cartazzi axle then the length of the driving wheelbase. The other problem with the gauge widening may be that as Romney is laid to 15.1/8", the gauge widening will equate to 1/8" less than the norm!

Tom, the longest engine / tender combination at romney is currently 30' according to the locomotives of the RH&DR book.

what ever you do dont stop it on a corner or you could get stuck like I did at Rhyl with someone elses loco not saying which one.... ;) :(
It may only be 15" but it is fun to play with

I got that figure off the website, and they've been playing about with tenders the past few year so either could be wrong :P
I think NSL headshunt is slightly longer than Kingsway, but i cant remember, but it should be alright:)

I think Typhoon will look good on the front of the liverpool stock, it might make some very good and confusing photo's of it with them and north sea lane. does the liverpool stock breaking system still work? as typhoon could use it.
