I found the following video on Youtube, taken by NODDINGCAT: Views from the cycle path that runs the length of the BVR The video starts at Wroxham and shows various locations along the line. It also has a clip of BVR #6 “Blickling Hall” at the front of a nine coach winter train. You can tell that it is a winter train by the flat-roofed generator car in the middle of the formation. The only issue that I have with the video is the aspect ration, which makes everything look wider/longer than it really is. Best wishes, |

You can also tell it's winter due to the general state of the vegetation and weather! ![]() I enjoyed it actually, it was rather good, apart from the very prolonged departure of the 156 at the start, and far too many shots of Hoveton and Wroxham station... ... ![]() Cheers, Dom Greenop DMR |

I agree with all of your comments Dom. The front end of the video could do with a visit to the cutting shop. Vegitation is an ongoing problem, but we are about to start year round "Volunteers' clean up weekends": Clearing up. Despite having a: Flail / Weed spraying unit. Best wishes, |

To be fair David I don't think the BVR looks to bad vegetation-wise - I was referring more to the dead leaves and the general bleakness of the cold season rather than any overgrowth or otherwise. I don't know what it looks like in summer, though, so I'm not going to argue. ![]() Cheers, Dom Greenop DMR |

Brambles are the worst, Dom. Followed by stinging nettles. For a few years we could not use the weed spraying kit on the Flail, because we could not get anybody to pass people out on the machine! That was because we had built the machine in-house and nobody outside the BVR had been passed out on how to use it! Eventually we got out of the loop by training a "registered spraying person" on how to use our machine. He was then able to pass out BVR staff on how to spray using the machine. Anyway, since the spaying equipment has been in use it has improved the appearance of the track and ballast. Unfortunately, the original BVR ballast was "crushed" shingle, which had not been very crushed. We now use granite ballast under all new sleepers. So you cannot see it! However, if we were to re-ballast the whole line............. 29t of granite ballast at about £900 = about 150m of track. Therefore, for 14km of track we need a lottery grant! |

BVR Engineering has recently added photos "A trip along the line", which shows views from loco #6 as it travels from Aylsham to Wroxham. See: http://www.bvr-engineering.fotopic.net/c1722200_1.html (Admin. to note: Could not get the URL facility to work and the preview does not look right!) Best wishes, |

Very interesting to have a look through those pictures David! On a side note, does anyone have a side on photograph of 'Spitfire's' nameplates? Ben |

Thank you John. You saved me looking up the BVR photos! The name is in GWR style, as is the livery, which used paint from the West Somerset Railway. For those that are not familiar with the BVR, "Spitfire" is over a “raised track”, adjacent to the turntable at Aylsham. A proper "pit" with hydraulic lifting gear, is on the wish list. |
