Was asked today to identify a green LNER tender locomotive at a museum in Coniston in the 1990's in 10.25" gauge. He could also remember there were cars there.

Looked up the Ruskin Museum http://www.ruskinmuseum.com/ but nothing mentioned there.

Have spoken with Dave Holroyde, who cannot add anything.

Does anyone else know of this engine and its history?

Thanks.

That rings a bell with me because i can remeber seeing a LNER loco of some sort in a museum next to a red loco of some sort where there were farm stuff and cars etc but i haven't a clue where it is probably because i was really small at the time....

Are you sure that it was Coniston?

There is the Lakeland Motor Museum further south: http://www.lakelandmotormuseum.co.uk/

I was at the Ruskin Museum a couple of years ago doing research on their model village but I don't remember any railway locos. The private Coniston Railway was/is nearby but that is 7.25" gauge. Perhaps there is/was a connection?

Thanks Tim.

Mentioned both of them but I am told it is not the Major's railway or the Holker Hall site.

That actually sounds more like the World of Country Life at Exmouth than anywhere further North!

That could be it but it looks a little big for 10.25?

Trains go into tunnels and come out but locos can go in sheds and never come out

I think the issue is becoming clouded here...I've just had a quick look at the NGRS Jaywick book, and as far as I can see neither of the 18" Stirling Singles has ever been anywhere near Coniston!

Can add a bit more to this. It was the Bateman Motor Museum, a private collection.

Unfortunetly, Mr Bateman has died and his Grandson has advised me that there was no locomotive there when they split up the collection. He added that his Grandfather used to keep items for others on display for safe keeping and it probably was a 'loan' engine which has subsequently been returned to its owner.
