The John Tidmarsh Book on the Sutton Coldfield Railway has been reprinted. The new copy has had the photos enhanced, and a final piece added. Available from the CCLR.

John will next be at the CCLR over the Gala Weekend.

Another book on the SMR will be published in August, being a pictorial survey.

Having had a glance at an advance copy of this the last time I was at the CCLR, I can confirm that the picture quality in the reprint is superb, well worth buying again!

However, a word of warning - one of the MRMT Staff Team appears in a photo in the new section.... :rolleyes

Is it available anywhere else, or by post?
It's a long way from here to Cleethorpes and I don't think I'll manage it this year.

Hi All
Here is all the info

The Sutton Coldfield Fifteen Inch Gauge Railway by J.G.Tidmarsh

This is a reprint with updates and new information of a book first published in 1990, original copies of which are now hard to find. It has been published on behalf of the Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway, where most of the Sutton Collection now operates, by Plateway Press. The profits from the sales of the book are going towards the continued preservation and running of the Collection at Cleethorpes.

Using some forty three captioned black and white photographs and 5 line drawings, a complete history of the various l0 ¼” and 15” gauge railways that have existed over the years at Sutton Park is told.

Other lines that provided stock and equipment to Sutton are also mentioned as is the move of the majority of the collection to Cleethorpes after years of storage in the West Midlands.

The author, John Tidmarsh spent many happy hours both visiting and working on the Sutton line and still drives the engines occasionally at Cleethorpes. Therefore, he has a good knowledge of his subject which is backed up with extensive research and the book is all the better for this.

It should also be added that prior to retirement, John Tidmarsh was a career railwayman and has a vast experience with railways, both at home and abroad. I bought his first book about Sutton Coldfield and hope to buy a copy of the update.

Got my copy

Also, John Tidmarsh had a class 92 temporarily named after him for his work on the project.

We will have to look in to how much the poster will be to send as it will need a tube to send it in. Unless you want it folding up and putting it with the book?
