On my first-of-many visits to Eastleigh now the missus is there driving big trains for a while, I (we) decided that a visit to Eastleigh Lakeside Railway was a must, it being on the doorstep. Happily this also coincided with the first day in service of the Kirkland A4, alongside 10¼ Britannia "Rob Roy". Now, anyone who knows me well knows that miniature locomotives of standard gauge outline are my thing, so a visit was a must. Here are a few of the pics:- ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The line is superb, with great gradients and sharp corners to make the locos work, although the A4 copied its bigger brothers and hardly chuffs at all! Many Thanks to all down there, especially Clive, for saying hello. And the other ex-northerner who spotted me from his seat on a park bench..... |

We were on the last trip she did on the Saturday - she was absolutely wonderful. With just 6 coaches she was hardly breaking sweat. Personally, I'd prefer to see her with side skirts, but who cares, a beautiful miniature of one of the best looking steam locos ever built. Peter |

Notice the big kid at the front of the bottom one. And yes, I had to sit behind her.... (Better than the Class 66 she's due to drive tonight though!!!) |

http://www.flickr.com/photos/49572843@N00/4046927316/ Just come across this interesting photo of the A4 at Thoresby Hall in c1967. Interesting to see it in LNER Green - it changed its livery before it arrived at Stapleford I think. Certainly the line does not look all that permanent - however it was there for 20 years or so! |
