Hello!

Our gala is fast approaching, so here are the details:

Friday:

A photo charter has been organised, so there will be a lot of activity, however a 60 minute interval public timetable will be in operation, with other trains being freight or ECS.

Saturday/Sunday/Monday:

The main gala days featuring a mix of passenger and freight trains. Trains will run at approximatly 15 minute intervals, with double heading and express trains (Non-stop Kingsway-North Sea Lane) also featuring.

The current lineup, of course subject to the usual disclaimers and availability is:

RH&DR No.7 'Typhoon' - Courtesy of the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway
S.M.R No.1 'Sutton Belle'
S.M.R No.2 'Sutton Flyer'
S.M.R No.4
SR&RL No.24
B.M.R 'Mountaineer'
B.M.R DA1
LNER D49 No.111 'Yvette'
GCR 8K Class locomotive (LNER/BR O4)
Heywood Replica 'Effie'
Minirail Diesel 'The Cub'
Lister Diesel 'Toby'

Also on display will be the newly arrived replica NER Steam Crane.

Also the now traditional feature of this gala, the Lion's Beer festival will be staged in Griffin Hall on Friday Saturday and Sunday nights, with trains running later into the evening to serve this.

Once again around the boating lake will be the transport extraveganza featuring many stalls and classic vehicles.

The best value ticket for this event is the standard Rover ticket, allowing unlimited travel on the day of issue. £10 for adults, £8 for children.

Hope to see you all there!

Thanks

Ben

Anybody got any idea what is running tomorrow (Friday) as I have waited in vain for the 'Special Timetable' to be unveiled and am leaving for Cleethorpes tomorrow morning without knowing whether anything other than the 50-min service is running!

My apologies for the delay in getting the timetable online, we have been so busy with preperations for the gala. Chris and I have finalised the timetable, we just need to finalise the loco allocations now!

Hope to see you there

It must be said that 'hiring' the railway to a Photo Charter and then inviting us public along can have embarrassing consequences :(

I turned up at just after mid-day and was most generously given what equated to the freedom to travel as freely as i wished on whatever train I chose ... I was overwhelmed by the generosity of that gesture. Unfortunately about tea-time I was publicly accused of having gate-crashed the event by the people who had in their words 'paid a lot of money to hire the railway' and I was informed that, whilst they couldn't stop me filming over the fence, I should be aware that someone would stand in front of me if I did so. I was extremely embarrassed at finding myself in the position where these people felt I had 'gate-crashed' their event as I have every sympathy with their feelings now I realise that rather than pay to attend a photo charter at the railway these people had 'hired' the railway.

When I arrived at the railway I was trying to establish what was going on today before deciding whether to buy a rover ticket today or tomorrow (Saturday) ... the generous offer decided things for me as it would only be fair of me to buy a rover on the Saturday to repay the kindness ... in the same manner the only other time I have accepted free travel (at another railway) I joined the 'Friends' as a thankyou ... I wish now that I had waited to visit the railway tomorrow instead as I left the railway today feeling rather upset at the feelings being expressed about me :(

A very pleasent afternoon was spent at the CCLR today, The home fleet of No. 24, Sutton Flyer, Effie, Yvette, No.4 and that stunning 04 were in action with assistance from Typhoon, or Tornado as some members of this forum kept naming it!

At the shed Mountaineer was taking its first tentative steps in the yard with a definite bark to its exhaust rather than the horse woof before overhaul. I even saw the Cub move under its own power...who could ask for more! The trains were all running nearly full too, including the Sutton observation compartments.

Good to see all the familiar faces and thanks to all the CCLR staff for this well organsied event.

To echo what Stu said, a very enjoyable day in the sun at Cleethorpes, I'll post my photos tomorrow.

It was great to see packed trains of happy people enjoying the steam (plus No.4).

Thanks to the CCLR Staff and friends for the day.

Mountaineer did indeed move herself under her own power for the first time in well over a year.

Obviously the shed had never looked so busy all day, as when i took the regulator and tried to get her moving! She was a little reluctant at first, but this was due to a slight valve timing error, no doubt due to thermal expansion, and the fact that everything is like brand new, meaning everything is still quite stiff.

There are a few little jobs to take care of, the afore mentioned valve timing, as well as the drain cocks, which appear to be stuck open, no duobt full of a years worth of dust and swarf.

It was great to finally get her moving, and was a nice end to what had been a very long couple of weeks, getting her ready for her boiler inspection on Wednesday, and then for yesterdays steam test.

And i would personally like to say a big thank you to those who worked a number of very late nights helping to get her ready and all the others who have put in a lot of hard work over the past year or so.

I'm sure there will be pictures to follow at some point, and hopefully the new cylinders and Lempor exhaust can be put to the test soon!!! (and fingers crossed they will work!)
