Well, Rob, there's always the 15" Bure Valley Railway, which is right in the middle of the Norfolk broads. I think there's also the 7.25" Ashmanaugh Light Railway somewhere in the area but don't know for sure its location, or when it's open, since it only opens on certain days of the year.

If you head for the coast there's the Wells and Walsingham Light Railway, and the Wells Harbour Railway, both 10.25" and located in Wells-by-the Sea.

I'm sure there are others... ...

Cheers,

Dom Greenop

The 15" gauge Bure Valley Railway that runs between Aylsham & Wroxham has:

The most powerful steam engines
The greatest number of engines (5 steam & 3 diesel)
The longest line – 9 miles
Reasonable size trains (usually at least 8 coaches), with locos working hard at up to 20mph.
Combined train & boat trips (45min train trip and at least 1.5 hours on the Broads).

As well as the ordinary BVR Website, you also look at the BVR Engineering Website for more detailed engineering information about the BVR.

This forum also has details about the BVR under both 15" gauge and events.

Whilst at Aylsham, please feel free to look in the workshop and/or ask the staff any questions. Just inside the workshop door is a description and photo of each of loco.

I'm planning to check out Bressingham today (if we tire of Southwold Pier and beach...) I'll see if that errant 15" gauge class 29 is kicking around.

Rode behind Rosenkavalier and Alan Bloom 0-4-0T today, plus cabbed King Haaken on the SG.
There's no apparent backup power to Alan Bloom on the garden line, but the driver said a sister loco was built and sent elsewhere. Could someone enlighten me as to where?

There were the dismantled elements of a 15" gauge Flying Scotsman in the Stationary Engine shed, but no further details.

Mannertrau was sheeted over in the Waverley Line shed. Apparently the tender on Rosenkavalier was Mannertrau's, but like a lot of the Mannertrau's parts, have been used on Rosenkavalier's rebuild. The class 29 was out of the shed and apparently sees occasional passenger service. the remains of a small 040 lister-looking thing sits in the open called Ivor. Didn't get a photo.

The Waverley and Nursery lines departures are staggered to ensure parallel running, whistle-tooting and a close shave on the diamond crossing. The Waverley Line then runs alongside the standard gauge branch so you can see King Haaken as it passes at 'speed'.

Thanks for the visitor report Tim, interesting to hear how things are at Bressingham. Look forward to seeing your photos.

The sister locomotive is 'Lady Jane Gray' 0-4-0ST+T built by P.Gray in 1996. It went to the Knebworth Park Miniature Railway at first I think, and now it is pirvate ownership in the North West.

Thanks
Peter

Ah...always wondered what happend to this. A few years ago the railway press reported that it was to be restored, but we've heard nothing since then. Sounds like the project might have stalled, which is a shame :(
