Good Morning Everybody :)

I bring breaking news to you from Mr Tim Gray of the RH&DR....

No.1 Green Goddess was steamed for the first time in quite a few years this morning outside Crowhurst Engineering at Hythe station. This iconic loco is due back in traffic on Saturday the 13th June and will be a much welcomed return to steam.

Here is an exclusive photograph taken this morning by Tim on his phone...

All the rhdr loco's that have been overhauled lately all look absolutely fantastic i think that they look even better than they did 20 years ago when i first visited the romney. It just shows the quality of the workmanship that is being put back into them.

That would be Greenley's experiments with 'super expansion'.

However, I must agree with the others here, it looks like a fine job and it will be wonderful to see her working again.
Well done to those concerned.

I have to agree with Stuwebb there... Tony Crowhurst has done an amazing job, just as he did with No.8. It's been a joy to pop in when I've been in the box at Hythe and see the way the overhaul has been taking shape. I will definitely be out and about when No.1 returns to service to document with the SLR. :)
Kind Regards

That's great, thank you Tim.

I've always felt that the Goddess quality is that she portrays the class as Greenly designed.
You can see the lines very clearly, in particular the boiler and firebox area. How the overall feel for the locomotives has been changed by the subtle shaping of cladding sheets in the other engines, even adding a subtle degree of tapered boiler.

The Goddess is easily identifiable as the quintessential RH&DR Greenly design.

Comparing the pictures to some of the Romney books, that I have. You're right, the boiler band is missing above the rear driver
