Thanks to everyone for their comments on the loco, the SMR crew are very proud of her!

Just to clear things up a little, after the Retford exhibition Shifting Sands is being 'retired' from exhibitions due to several factors, not least the lightweight way it was built, it was only intended for home use and perhaps 1/2 shows, not repeated showing. In order to safeguard it I have come to the conclusion it is best to not be carting it around. There are other factors too but that is the main one. However, don't rule out a similar project for the future, but I mean the distant future...

BTW, how did you get the photo's so clear? They'd be great if you was photographing an 0 Gauge loco, never mind an N Gauge one! I don't think folk would believe you if you put the actual dimensions :D

All the best, David

My camera has a full manual mode, allowing me to stop it to f8, and choose the shutter speed. On a tripod, in a well lit space it can produce very acceptable results!

I very nearly included a ruler in one shot to prove the size. The other week the loco was shown of to two managers from real east coast miniature railways and one of them expressed suprise at how small it was, he was expecting it to run on 00 gauge track!

I'm afraid I can't come to Retford, but it is great to see the Pacific running on your layout, she definetly looks the part!

Thanks

It definatly has an EWT look to it! And it looks fantastic on the layout.....I wonder if the pic of it by the shed was tiltshifted, would it make it look real???

Not sure about tiltshifting, but adding a real sky can sometimes work quite well...

(The sky is from Dungeness by the way.)

Now that does look good :D Thanks Murray!

AFAIK Tiltshifting does not work in reverse to make models look like the real thing. For that you need good depth of field and a long exposure...
