Does anybody remember or have any information on the railway that used to operate in Billing Aquadrome in Northampton, I think it was about 18" or 24", haven't been there for years now and can't find an info on it on the internet.

Dave

We had a ride over to Billing this afternoon and walked round the track circle that is still all there, but in places it has a fairground ride standing on it and in other places vehicle access paths have been laid over it. There is no sign of any locomotive or rolling stock and the man we spoke to said that it had not operated for a long time but he was not sure how long, or of the where abouts of the stock.

Ah right last time I went past there the loco and stock was still there. I wonder where its gone? I think it was a lister in a steam outline body?

I have the railway noted as closing c10/2003.

And also: "Reported out of use by 4/7/2004. Track intact 29/08/05, loco boarded up, coaches gone. Loco gone 23/06/07".

I will some slides from previous visits, when the line was operational.

(The site once boasted a steam powered 10.25" gauge line).

I saw it about 12 years ago and seem to think it was a plate frame 20/28hp Motor Rail.

I have two pics of the line taken yesterday when myself and peter went to the baloon festival there and walked the track needless to say it won't be coming back....but it looks like some of the track screws have been renewed and the odd new looking sleeper....other then that the platforms are still there but there are a few fairground rides on the track.

Thanks Laurence.

Another 2ft gauge "miniature" gone. Sigh.

Does anyone have a photo of the loco / stock in 'steam outline' guise?

These are the only photos I've come across of the line in use - taken by Glen, doesn't appear in that bad state then.

Thanks

The loco at Billing was built by Alan Keef Ltd in 1984 for a quarry in Surrey. in 1987 it returned to Alan Keef, had a bit of steam outlining added, and went to Billing. Billing previously had both Motor Rail and Ruston steam outlined locos.

If anyone knows where the Keef loco is currently, I'd be most interested.

The loco is still at Billing. The owner is currently looking to relay the line on a different alignment.

That's good to hear about reopening, it seems like a pleasant site for a line - though we didn't see the loco on our visit, so it must be stored nearby - can't recall a specific engine shed.
