I see from the latest Railway Herald, page 4, that the line between Scunthorpe and Doncaster will be closed between Sunday 21st June and Monday 7th Sept 2009 and that there will be no direct services between Doncaster and Cleethorpes during the period.

Will it be possible to get to Cleethorpes by any other route, during the Scunthorpe - Doncaster closure?

First Transpennine Express are operating replacement coach services Doncaster - Scunthorpe - Barnetby - Grimsby - Cleethorpes and more importantly a direct Doncaster - Grimsby - Cleethorpes service during the blockade.

East Midlands Trains will continue to serve the Lincoln - Grimsby line, and I presume the Cleethorpes - Grimsby - Barton on Humber service by Northern will continue (until they come up with an excuse not to!).

For the brave, there is Northern's Saturdays only Sheffield - Worksop - Gainsborough - Cleethorpes service, three trains each way on a Saturday over the line via Brigg....

Despite, the line being closed for upgrading, we will still be busy running our normal services.
We have also been informed that the line will reopen for the Mainline in Miniature Gala in September, & are talking to FTE about sponsership.

We are planning with the new operators of the Meridian Park Arena for the pop festivals on 15th & 16th August. The bands performing are the Zutons, Proclaimers, New Beautiful South, and Paul Carrick (from Mike & the Mechanics, might ask him to look at the Cub) Estimated crowds for each around 10,000, so that will help.

If you feel really adventurous you could get a train from Doncaster to Hull and then get the 350 bus to Barton upon Humber, which includes a trip over the Humber Bridge, and then the train from Barton to Cleethorpes. The 350, 'Humber FastCat' is a half hourly service but the trains only run every two hours, so need to check the connection times. Trains tend to leave Barton just before the even hour on weekdays and Saturdays but not that frequent on Sundays.
