Having decided to postpone my Gn15 industrial modelling in favour of a miniature railway, I was wondering which scale to model in. The choices would be based on "OO9" 9mm gauge track so that would give primarily GNine (9" gauge prototype), 1:32 (12" gauge), or O9 (15" gauge). The main problem would, I think, be sourcing suitable passenger figures especially since GNine would need sit-astride rolling-stock and there don't seem to be many G-scale figures suitable for that! O9 (and possibly 1:32) could mean sit-inside coaches which would alleviate the passenger problem, but I really wanted to go for the seaside "round-the-putting-green" railway for which a 15" gauge prototype would not be appropriate, but GNine probably would. Does anyone in the group have any ideas - other than taking a hacksaw to Preiser G-scale figures?? |

Move up a little from G scale to 16mm - 9mm track will pass for 7.25" then. There are plenty in the 16mm frat. who make custom or customise-able people (Rob Bennett to name but one), and also the figures you can get from Early Learning Centre etc. are approximately the right size (1:20 against 1:19, but then, you get short people in the real world too) ![]() Coincidentally, OO track = 12.25" almost exactly in 16mm... ... Hope this helps. Dom Greenop DMR GHLR (16mm, deceased) |

Good idea! I hadn't thought of that scale/gauge combination! |

If you have the space/inclination to go outside there is the option of 2", i.e. 1/6 scale on 32mm track which scales out close to 7 1/4" gauge; 2" on 45mm is around 10 1/4". Use the likes Action Man and related figures and bits. cheers |

if you go to 1/12 scale in 32mm it comes out at 15inch and you can use all the dolls house stuff as there is every thing you could ever want. I know as I have a layout that is 27 foot long in this scale. The only thing is the trains are long a one loco and four 4 wheel coaches is five foot based on bassett-lowke products. |
| It may only be 15" but it is fun to play with | |

<quote> if you go to 1/12 scale in 32mm it comes out at 15inch <quote> ...and so 16.5mm track would scale to about 7-1/4 inch gauge which would be what I am looking for with regard to a seaside-type railway! |

<quote>There are plenty in the 16mm frat. who make custom or customise-able people <quote> Other than Rob Bennett, who would you suggest? (Finding info on 16mm scale this side of the Pond is next to impossible...) |
