With Green Goddess being returned to traffic yesterday and the new workshop being open for visitors, I though I'd add a couple of pictures showing how the overhaul of Dr. Syn is progressing.

What colour are they painting it? seems very strange to see a red buffer beam on it.

Black (as far as I know), Syn has carried a red buffer beam before, see Derek Smith's RH&DR in colour book

And I think the front bogie gives the lining colour away

I must admit from what bits you can see its going to look great. Is it having it's original style chimney fitted like the one on Winston Churchill? And is there any chance of a return to the original vanderbuilt style tender?

Don't think so, on either question

As far as I can remember Dr Syn carried that style of buffer beam paintwork for many years. I too would like to see a return to the original style chimney/domes etc. We did look at the possibility of building a Vanderbilt but there were always problems with the centre of gravity caused by the water compartment being so high as well as capacity - now if they were to fit the water troughs along the Greatstone straight as was envisaged in times gone by that might different!!
