She looks stunning.

Please can one of the clever boffins copy the photo on post number 3 on this thread and add Colin's first picture on post 48 so us mear mortals can compare the before and after.

Also, is the a before the tender was added photo to make up the set.

Many thanks.

Shamelessly stolen from Tim Dunn's Flickr, before tender.

Can somone clear it up for me, i think i've missed a bit...Dougal was a tank engine? then got a tender? and now has a new boiler? that right?
Correct, Tom.

In a parallel to Mountaineer, Dougal has been modified extensively throughout her life to both improve her technically and to suit the needs/wants of her owners and/or the railway she is operating on.

However, UNlike Mountaineer, both the tender and new boiler have been added at the same time (or within a short space of time), rather than the progressive nature of Maintaineer's modifications.

Dougal looks very nice, certainly a lot more 'butch' (if thats the right word) than before.

Cheers,

Dom
Not quite Dom, the modifications have been 2 years apart, and other than the boiler, no major modifications to the fabric of the main loco have taken place. The basic locomotive is still the same. Mountaineer on the other hans now basically has its original wheels and frames, having had extensive Tender, platework, boiler and the most recent cylinder modifications.

The tender was merely added for greater fuel capacity and greater crew comfort.

Craig, I wasn't going into vast detail, as was obvious from my post, and Tom's post did not request great detail either.

I was merely drawing a parallel of Dougal's mods to a loco 'closer to home' to Tom.

And wasn't the tender new quite recently too...?

I suppose the argument stands that Dougal's undergone similar - but not identical - treatment to Bonnee Dundee given your post... ...

Sorry to be difficult, but I still think she looked better with the small boiler. I agree the new smokebox does have a slight Guest look to it (I wonder why?), but I actually feel that with the large boiler she would probably look better with the side tanks removed and a larger tender fitted. But it is...when I win the lottery, etc., etc....

I do think that she would look slightly better with a copper capped chimney.
