As it is around 200 miles from home I only found the line existed late last year (Saw it in the Little Puffers guide book) and happened by coincidence to pop in for my only look to date on the day Markeaton Lady was leaving on a truck earlier this year. I was going to call in on the line on Sunday as one of my route options includes passing through Derby on the A38 but see from their website the line is currently closed. I fully understand that this forum is not a place to go in to the circumstances of concessions and leases etc., if that is the problem. However I am interested to know if this is just a short term glitch due to something like mechanical failures or if it is closing for a lengthy spell or sadly for good? Always try to combine something like a miniature railway or steam centre stop rather than just sticking to the motorway when driving up country in daylight hours hence reason for thinking of Derby for a pit-stop this Sunday. Hello John, I can inform you that it is a short term closure. We will hopefully be open and running again soon. There are a couple of reasons we have been not been running one of which i shall not be discussing on here, the other is we only have the one loco at the moment. The reason our only loco is off the road is it doesn't have any wheels at the moment . The owner took the decision to have some new wheels made for the diesel. Unfortunately these took longer than expected so have only just been delivered. We are also modifying the bogie's slightly to improve the drive system. We are hoping to have a trail run on Friday so hopefully this goes well. I shall let you all know when we are back up and running.Hope this helps, Michael MPLR |
