I'm sure I've read somewhere that, as delivered, the LMR locos were a lined chocolate brown, and were repainted Midland Lake when taken over by the LMS. Couldn't say where I read it though.

What a smashing example. You've made a grat job of the lining! any pictures of the backhead/inside of the cab? Well done! Also what kind of size is it? Bet it's not far off a large SG 5" model?!

Regards, David.

Hi Robert,

sorry am very late with this reply,....not been on for a little while. The leak locos (my cousin has a 10 1/4" one and I have been a big fan for many years)....were originally painted 'chocolate brown' with yellow lining, I can send you more precise details if you want, although no exact colour match remains, there is a little remnant upon the name plates that survive. It appears though to have been a rather light and 'whited out' chocolate brown. When the north staffs was absorbed into the LMS, the next time the locos were rebuilt, they recieved their single safety valves, the raised bunker, lost their bunker makers plates and recieved the other little alterations,....and also recieved their initial LMS crimson lake livery. They never ran in crimson lake in their original form. The carriages followed into madda lake (I believe) from their original canary yellow. The locos were then subsiquently given black livery. (am not sure about JB Earl.....they were both repainted when overhauled I believe)

Hope that is of some use. I have quite a lot of history on the Leek if you are ever interested, or need to know anything. Just drop me a line.

Cheers
Simon
