Hello all,

There seems to be a lack of related conversations going on here about Romneys autumn gala... which isn't to surprising seeing as I don't recall any advertisements for it... and the fact that it wasn't exactly buzzing with people like it can be!!

I rushed back from my holidays to grab some photos on Saturday and spent most of today wandering about the marshland for some more, these can all be found lurking at the end of this link...

As usual, any comments or suggestions are appreciated!

All the best,
Steve

Steve, you have some great photo's on your site, well done!
especially liking this one... http://www.thestig.co.uk/p61371619.html . Love the way the enthusiasm of the youngster comes across and the proud parent explaining the moment along with the loco, immaculate as usual, in the back ground. Really strikes a chord with me, wish I had someone as talented following me with my son... ;)
"Mister, where does the petrol go?"
What do they teach kids in school these days???;)

Check out the website, Sherwood Forest Railway

Looks like it was a stunning event. Myself and Andrew have always had it VERY high on our 'to-do' lists, but the sheer distance from Wales has proved it prohibitive so far. A real shame, as it looks a fantastic event - surprised to hear it wasn't so well populated.

Do they still do the traditional end-of-gala 'Mega-Train'? Shades of 'Shelley Or Bust', or 'Steel Steam & Stars'...

Do they run to a published working timetable on these events, or is it a little more 'ad-hoc'? The wacky loco combinations look great fun, just wondered if they were advertised or not.

Great pics by the way! Some real crackers in there.

I completely agree about it being under the Radar.....randomly found out about it on Saturday and poped down for the day sunday! As ever a great Gala, and the first time I have managed to get on a Parralel run which was superb.

It seemed fairly busy to me on the sunday with many trains running full and having to leave people, thankfully only for 20 minutes thanks to the timetabling. Also the changing of at least 1 of the Romney to Hythe non stops being turn into a stopping train helped.

Was mainly filming and some vids will appear on you tube in due course.

Not really surprising that the child in the photo seems enthusiastic, her mother (also in the photo) is very involved with both the RH&DR Association & Heritage Group, as well as being an active volunteer.
Her father is editor of 'The Marshlander' and both her father and grandfather are RH&DR Diesel drivers

Great pictures as always Steve, any chance of you emailing me the full res shot of Sammy & Churchill at Palmarsh?
