Seen outside the shed on 2nd June 2010 is Jerry Lee, the new 4w loco at Hastings. There was no one about to give more info. The makers plate stands for Radcliffe-Valentine Miller Engineering, Hastings.

Derek,

It is a 4wDM with Petter AC1 engine and Albion gearbox, built by Shepperton Metal Products in the late 60s and has had a somewhat nomadic career since in the south of England! SMP built locomotives for Ian Allan's miniature railway business so it is perhaps rather appropriate that it now runs on what was Ian Allan's first miniature railway.

Swee' Pea outside the running shed today, repainted into new Black Livery for the restarting of services on Saturday.

Jerry Lee was being serviced, and is expected to be in service at the weekend.

Speedy Fizzle, the new build, is apparently currently on hold.

Cheers,

Ben

Thanks for the update - Swee Pea looks smart in its new livery - following along the lines of Boris at Hotham Park

I had heard via the facebook group, that 'Jerry Lee' was having a few teething problems as of late, and the owner is seriously considering an engine change!

Which must either have been done, or they fixed it another way. It was due to be in service the next day for the re-opening.

I understand 'Jerry Lee' was rebuilt with a new engine and Eaton hydrostat earlier this year but this was not proving satisfactory - it looks from Ben's photo as if it now has a more 'heavy duty' hydraulic transmission.

And what appears to be a new coach in the foreground?

Yep, two totally new coaching sets, which entered service on Saturday, utilising the original articulated bogies.

Hi there. Nice to see so many people interested in the work going on at HMR. As some of you have commented we now have two new sets of carriages and are successfully running a two train operation.
With regards to the rebuild on the Meteor I can inform you that it has now been fitted with a 10hp, single cylinder Yamaha engine and a full hydraulic system. 'Jerry Lee' is now a valuable member of the family capable of hauling an eight coach train loaded with over 100 adults! With regards to to RVM plate on the side this states who undertook the rebuild. The loco will be renumbered RVM-R2 of 2010. This also ties in with the building of the new loco 'Speedy Fizzle' No RVM-1 of 2010. The names Radcliffe and Miller are myself and my business partner David Miller. The name Valentine was my closest friend Daryl who sadly passed away in January this year of Crohns Disease. Myself and Daryl spent most of last year building this monster and has been named in his memory - 'Speedy Fizzle' being Daryl's nickname.

Dan, what engine are you putting in SPEEDY FIZZLE? I presume she will be a diesel hydraulic with drive to all wheels? Cheers , Dave Holroyde

Dan,

We spoke via Facebook a few weeks ago. I would like to congratulate you and your colleagues again on the work you have done on the line, it all really did look great on my visit. I thought the charity day was a fantastic idea and again congratulations on this :)

Are you planning to do anything with the old coach bodies? 3rd heritage set maybe? ;)

Just been looking at the pics on Facebook Dan and am amazed how much you have done in a short time. The new coaches look just the job and much more comfortable. Well Done.

Hi again. Thanks for the comments regarding the work. With regards to the old rolling stock, the rounded carriages are to be refurbished into, as you stated a Heritage set. The old square carriages are not in the best of condition so are to be rebuilt as permanent way stock. With regards to Speedy Fizzle it will be fitted with a three cylinder Perkins engine running hydraulic drive to all four axles with hydraulic disc brakes. It will basically be the same system as on Jerry Lee but doubled up (one pump, two motors).

On a visit yesterday, work was seen on a pair of new enclosed coaches and what seemed to be the old open coaches...
