I picked a copy up at the Bluebell yesterday for 75p. It dates from 1938. Does anyone know if this could be a more modern reprint? It is in very good condition. If it's of historical interest to anyone, I'll scan and post it here.

Of great interest Tim! A line I so wish had survived, it feels strange every time I work a train to Guildford knowing it ran alongside for a bit!

It's a really good reprint Tim, but doesn't appear that often, well done!

I have scanned in the booklet. I don't think it is in copyright and there are no publisher details on it. Nor can I find details online.

So, here it is for you all to enjoy.

Of interest particularly is the last page - an early form of marketing for 'Driver Experience' and Santa Specials! Could this have been one of the first railways to do this? Clearly keen to make a few shillings.

The best way to be nostalgic about the SBCR is to ride behind EDWARD VIII at Eastleigh. Just remember that coal at Eastleigh comes in 5 tonne polybags whereas the SBCR became so penniless that drivers had to fill out little dockets of how much coal they had taken.

Simon, did I read in the book that the stations were dismantled and used as firewood?

All my books are in store. Apart from Lilliputbahnen, which I seem to have mislaid. (Hope it turns up).

I too have a copy of this booklet. Again, I know nothing about it and neither do my parents who found it at home, so I am not sure where it came from or if it is a re-print.

Does anyone know if the Plateway Press book on the railway will ever be re-printed. I have been looking for a copy for ages, and although they do turn up on amazon a can't afford it! :-(

Cheers,
Rob

Hi All

Thanks for scanning the leaflet Tim, it is fascinating - sorry. but I must have missed this thread until now.
The line must have been great, but whatever happened to the Garratt ?

Cheers, Ivan.

Only one of them, no idea where the other one went though there has been a suggestion that it's in Australia..
