I've lived in Newcastle for nearly 4 years now and haven't had much miniature railway exposure during that time. Only recently I found out that there is a line at Beamish, so by invitation of a certain Mr Ken Swan I visited yesterday to have a site tour and ride around the line. A couple of pics below (thanks to SLS member Malcolm Paul for the second).

The railway will be running 14th-17th April as part of the museum's Great North Steam Fair, and hopefully the impressive rack system will also be in operation!

Cheers,
Chris

Visited Beamish today and managed to get a couple of photos of the bottom station area at this railway. The rest of the site is not public access apart from occasional open days.

Looking at the model engineers website at http://www.bmeg.co.uk/ it looks like the cog section is quite something and hope to see it running sometime.

Their next public steaming is The Great North Steam Fair. Thursday April 12th- Sunday April 15th.

Will post some photos of Beamish in another thread.

The rack railway carried passengers this last weekend during the Steam Fair. I was lucky enough to have a ride and it's hell fire! (to use a diesel basher phrase). I expect this now to be a regular feature of public running for major events, so keep an eye on the Beamish Model Engineers Group website.

I know where I can get an engine...any time I want
